Well, when you wade into the water you can expect wet feet. Yes we have a multi racial president, but you must admit that there any many amomg us who disdain him based upon color. Again, look at a map of the popular vote by state.
There are many organization throughout the US, that do not allow black membership (see Forest Lake Country Club as just one example). You won't find them by using Google because under federal law any organization who discriminates based upon race is not entitled to tax relief of any sort. Most social and fraternal organizations do not pay property tax, and would probably fail if they were required to. So, they change their by-laws to allow minority membership and through internal controls don't propose minorities for membership. These organizations didn't become enlightened suddenly by a social movement they were forced to act by federal law, big difference.
Now, why did I mention Mississippi regarding the article that was cited? For this reason, just because a writer in Idaho has felt little or no racism despite having a black son does not mean that much has changed throughout a vast part of this country. You, for example, claim to harbor no ill will toward minorities. Does that mean racism doesn't exist?
Don't you wonder why every president but two have been Anglo-Saxon descendants?
You may be bothered by black only clubs and scholarships. Are you bothered by clubs or scholarships that are only available to Italians, Germans, Jews or Catholics? Because they exist too.
Racismis not always a bad thing. Aperson has every right to be proud of their culture, their heritage and their race. Bigotry is the problem. Those two terms are very, very different.

When I look at the popular vote I see the rural parts being more republican, and the cities and California being democrat. Not black and whtie.
Why is it wrong for a Country Club to be white only? When we have scholarships an black only clubs? I personally wouldnt start a "white-only" club or something, because I think its stupid to not include someone just because of their skin color (which they cant help). I just dont like seeing white, mexican, or someone other than black gettin passed up on scholarships because they arent black, when in some cases they may deserve it more. And I know racism still exists, Im not saying it doesnt. I'm just saying a lot of people blow it up to be a much, much bigger deal. when to me we have bigger problems to deal with, when we can just ignore the idiots who are racist and quit givin them attention.
Do I wonder why all presidents but two were Anglo-Saxon decendents? No, because in my memory the only two black people to run for president were complete idiots. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. HAHA, thats why. Have a black or minority person run for president that isnt stupid and then you'd have a point. Obama wasnt stupid, and he won.
It does bother me that there are scholarships that are based where your decendents are from, or even religion. Its still discrimination.
Racism is always a bad thing. There is a difference between being proud of who you are and being a racist or a bigot.

cynthia mckinney and alan keyes were both black and ran for president in 2008...you must not have been paying much attention
While Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton may both be idiots, and even devisive at times, they are clearly not stupid...let's at least keep it real here
and there are scholarships for italian americans, jewish americans, chinese americans, etc....keep looking
look, i've explained this already, and im sure you understand why the United Negro College Fund was founded and why there are historically black schools...if you understand why they were founded, why do you think they should be dismantled now? The funny thing is you guys think that a UNCF scholarship is only eligible to go to a black person to attend a black school...and now we have ensberg claiming it's racist that there isn't a white scholarship program...please, feel free to start any white foundation that gives scholarships to rural area teenagers at any time...i will not protest

You do know the definition of Anglo-Saxon, correct? That comment was not limited to black Americans, it includes Hispanic, Italian, Polish, Asian, etc., etc.
Don't you find it funny that a white idiot can not only run for thre presidency, but actually get elected?
Please clarify something that has become unclear. Are you advocating clubs and scholarships based on race or not? It seems to me you started out that way, but now you want to know why it's wrong to form a 'white only' country club. What exactly is your point?
I'm not even sure why this post appeared on a sports forum, it's certainly not the right place for this discussion. In fact it's clear that many of the authors of the posts here have no idea of the effect of hundreds of years of oppression. In fact, it's just plan ignorant to believe that by passing a few laws, and waiting a few years, all will be forgotten and forgiven. Black Americans have every right to be proud of their heritage and to see to it that children have opportunities, education and funding when necessary. If that's racism, my friend, this country needs a lot more of it. All I'mhearing in these forums is a bunch of nonsense about people who are tired of hearing about racism and that because they have a friend or two from a minority culture that all is well in the country. Phoooey!

Yeah I forgot about Keyes and Mckinney.
I dont believe there should be any club, scholarship, etc. that discriminates any race or nationality.
Yes, every race and nationality have the right to be proud, and should be.
I think all forms of racism is wrong.
The reason these posts are on a sports forum is because we are in the "Chit-Chat" aka: Off Topic section.
The reason we havent had a non Anglo Saxon president, is because we havent had one worthy of winning the election. I dont think its racist, because we have non Anglo Saxon mayors, senators, governors and such.

On that note, this conversation is over. If you really think that then your problem is much deeper than trying to understand racism in the 21st Century. Wow,I'm still astounded by that remark.

How can any of you, even for a moment, doubt the existence of racism in America? Is black representation in any of the following areas anywhere close to proportionate of the population?
Congress
Chief Executives of the Fortune 500
Presidents of American Colleges and Universities
NCAA football coaches
Astronauts
Bank Presidents
Ambassadors and Diplomats
Sports Executives (oh yeah, that's right, they just want to stay home and relax)
Teachers and Education Administrators
Doctors
and on and on.
Maybe many of of you who have posted here don't feel as though you harbor racially prjudiced thoughts and I sincerely want to believe that's true. But please remember there are still many of those bigots from another time, plus their sons and daughters, who are alive today. It's not coincidental that despite an unpopular war, rising unemployment, poor health care and a failing economy Barack Obama was still soundly defeated in many southern and midwestern states.

so, can I list off areas where there are disproportionate percentages of blacks to white as proof of racism? That path goes both ways!
so, according to you, the only reason obama lost the south is because he is black? how about the fact that we are christians first, conservatives second, and republican third? I can list off numerous minorities that I gladly would have voted for because race had nothing to do with it. Obama was the most liberal senator in the senate. The majority of the south is conservative.
90%+ of blacks voted for Obama. no one was shocked and no one made a deal of it. But if someone dared vote against him they must be racist? give me a break man

ensberg...should the united negro college fund be dismantled?
-

I'll be honest with you, I don't know. my decision would be based on the response if someone started a white only college fund. If minorities were ok with it then I have no problem with the UNCF. If there were protests and calls for boycotts, etc. then yes, i think the UNCF should be dismantled.

the UNCF is not black only...just so you know
