let me do some research. i trust you and I don't want to debate on something I obviously need to know a little more about. thanks for the info.
(my issue through this thread hasn't been about the UNCF specifically. it has been about the large number of scholarships that are available to blacks only. And the fact that to this point, unless I missed it, no one will answer what they think would happen if someone started a white only scholarship fund. Does anyone really think jackson and sharpton wouldn't be protesting?)

By all means list the areas, and please explain to me their importance in relative terms.
And don't be so proud to label yourself a democrat or a republican, instead think with your own brain and make your own choices. No one said the south voted against Obama because the people who live there are racist. What I said was that despite this country being in one of the lowest points in it's history the south and midwest were still unable to embrace a change.
Remember a republican, Eisenhower, and a southerner, LBJ, brought about the legislation that embraced the civil rights movement. They did because they were free thinkers who knew when change was necessary.
And just what the **** does this mean? "how about the fact that we are christians first, conservatives second, and republican third"
How dare you lump the 50 plus million people who live acrossed the south and lump them into one abominal generalization!
And why does the United Negro College disturb you so? Does it cost you anything or harm you in any way? Are you bothered by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the scholarships they offer? What about Italian Americans, should they not be allowed to assemble and celebrate their heritage? Are their scholarships racist?
Maybe each and every one of us should all be exactly the same. No rich, no poor, no white nor black, no good no evil, just a bunch of people all living quietly and peacefully in a land where everything is the same, and never changes. Are you always perturbed by people who aren't just like you?
so, can I list off areas where there are disproportionate percentages of blacks to white as proof of racism? That path goes both ways!
so, according to you, the only reason obama lost the south is because he is black? how about the fact that we are christians first, conservatives second, and republican third? I can list off numerous minorities that I gladly would have voted for because race had nothing to do with it. Obama was the most liberal senator in the senate. The majority of the south is conservative.
90%+ of blacks voted for Obama. no one was shocked and no one made a deal of it. But if someone dared vote against him they must be racist? give me a break man[/QUOTE]

While you're doing your research don't forget the part about scholarships being "white only" for more than 300 years. And trust me on this, many still are.

I dont see why. America finally had a non Anglo Saxon man run for president that the majority of Americans felt was worthy or qualified to lead this country, and he got in. Sorry if that offended you.

you are the one who implied that the south voted against Obama for racial reasons. I simply said that there are many who voted against him because they were conservative, many voted because they are republicans.
you don't know me from adam so please don't accuse me of being a blind republican who can't think for myself. I also didn't say republicans are racist, which you seem to imply in your response.
when did I say I was bothered by people who are different? you keep implying that southerners are racist, republicans are racist, and I have a problem with people who are different than me. which basically leaves you looking like a standard liberal who has horrible sterotypes of the other side. If you knew me at all, even from these boards, you would know that the things you accuse me of are ridiculous and far fromt he truth.

And that comment leaves you looking like a standard conservative making stereotypes about standard liberals because of the stereotype that they all stereotype conservatives.

that is why I used the word standard liberal instead of all liberals. I should have put quotations around the words. I was attempting to say he is acting like the stereotypical liberal. I don't think that about all so I apologize for the confusion.

You speak of being liberal as though it is a bad thing. Liberal thinking lead to American independence. Liberal ideology created the greatest political document ever written, the US Constitution. A liberal freed the slaves, gave women the right to vote and ensured civil rights for all. Liberal thinking ended the great depression and put an end to monarchy in Europe. Typically the 3 greatest American presidents are considered to be Lincoln, Jefferson and FDR, guess what? All liberals.
"how about the fact that we are christians first, conservatives second, and republican third?"
These were your words, not mine. Now what was that about stereotypes and free thinking?

So it goes both ways, sounds fair to me...

Wait a minute here, Lincoln was the first REPUBLICAN President! He had conservative beliefs, he was not a liberal.
Now I can sum up this whole argument in a few words. It is amaerica, people can and will do as they please. If a University wants to hire a white guy, so be it. If the NBA wants to be all black, so be it. It goes for everything. We have started to and will eventually, 50-100 years from now hit a point were it wont matter. We will want the most qualified guy for the job. That will take time though.
also, race and racism will always exist as long as it is discussed in any capacity. The UNCF is a race based group. it doesnt mean its a bad thing, and I dont think it needs to be dismantled, but the fact is it is a race based program. But people need to realize things like that perpetuate race division and racism, whether they are good or bad is not rellevant.
