This relly ticks me off when people who think that socialism is simply when someone wants the rich to pay more taxes than the poor. WELL YOU'RE WRONG. If you have not studied socialism and just go based off of what the media tells you it is, then look it up wourself and stop relying on others. If one is in favor of socialism, he doesn't want higher taxes for the rich, he wants government control of EVERYTHING!!!!!! Higher taxes is not socialism, GONVERNMENT CONTROL IS!!!!!!!! The only difference between socialism and comunism is that citizens are allowed to keep their private property. so please, DO NOT ACCUSE SOMEONE OF SOCIALSIM SIMPLY IF THEY WANT THE RICH TO PAY HIGHER TAXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so where does the money come to fund socialism? from taxing the people who make the most money.... socialism is basically a transfer of wealth which obama has said he supports...

The money does not all come from taxes. Most of it comes from what you spend because the government controlls all the businesses

there are several different segments of socialism.... some believe it works the way you described some leave the economic system how it is and just taxes businesses and wealthy people while leaving control of the actual business to the private sector. From my point of view, socialism is making the society more equal by taxing the rich and giving that money to the poor. It is trying to make a transfer of wealth without the people receiving the benefits actually have to work for it.

I see your view more of a democratic socialism rather than strict socialism because I studied from basically from roman times to current and i see lots of different factions like you're talking about. I personally don't agree with the extra taxed money going to the poor when it should go to help fixing the national debt if you ask me. The main reason for my rant was the people who don't know true socialism and claim thats all Obama is because thats what they heard on the news. I have to put up with this almost daily since I live in an area that's probably 95% republican, and probably 60% of the republicans here are just that because its what their parents told them to be, when they haven't done the research for themselves. Just gets really annoying having to hear 'OBAMA IS SOCIALIST' when the people saying it don't even know what that means. I guess i was just trying to make sure there are no senseless accusations goin on here as well.

The one he hasn't done and I will not vote for him in 2012 if he doesn't is reform health care. As long as we remain the worst system in the civilized world and people still die so the insurance companies can save money(speaking from experience more then a few times). There is no point voting for him.

I hear all the lies about universal healthcare paid for by the right and drug companies and supported by the media but talking to people who have it(and they think it's a shame that America will not help it citizens) it's not even CLOSE to what is shown and what most people believe.

I'm not sure what group you're referring to, but I'm not surprised at all...that's why I didn't vote for him.

The main problem with health care is the cost. I think they way to fix the cost is to eliminate frivolous lawsuits.

The main reason it is so expensive is the insurance premiums these doctors have to carry to cover themselves in case of an accident.

Every one is so quick to sue in this country it really aggravates me.

Very much agreed. It's the greedy, inconsiderate few who are out to make a cheap buck at someone else's expense who make the system worse for everyone...hmmmm, that sounds oddly familiar to another system.

It's all part of the same idea. People who want higher taxes are basically saying they want the government to control more of our lives. They want the gov to take more of our money and provide more services for us...they want to give the government more control. Why else would they want to pay more taxes?

Obama might not be in favor of "pure" Socialism, but he has very strong socialist ideals. And there's also the fact that in the late 90's he was a member of a socialist party...

I don't think people thought he was going to spend $2.5 Trillion in a month and about half I'd say is for useless earmark stuff, such as 1.5 million for the research of genetics for grapes, or 500k for the study of foot odor, the list goes on and on...

I didnt claim thats ALL Obama wanted to do. And I wasnt trying to be EXACT when I said socialism. Maybe my idea of socialism is a little off since I wasn't taught from a teacher, I just read stuff on the interent. And no, it wasnt from FoxNews or CNN, I did a little research on my own. But as OPT said, its the same idea. But just because I'm successful, I feel like I have to pick up the slack for those who aren't. It might not be socialism, but it sitll sucks.

exactly, as it is for sports this is the governments version of luxury tax. The rich will hardly even realize the difference in amount while the people struggling will have their lives changed for the better

i think everyone should have to pay, just people who make more pay more, but i don't think people who are "poor" shouldn't pay taxes at all because they're citizens too, and if you just tax the top 2% they will become broke and will kill the economy even more IMO.

The sense of entitlement in this country will be its downfall.

Everyone should pay the same percentage. All because you make more doesn't mean you should pay a higher percentage.
