I know we dont need to get into numbers or antying. But I'm just cruious as to what you payed in taxes to the government, not counting sales tax. Dont asnwer that question, just think about it. Because I payed $20,000 dollars in 07, and I'm about to find out what I'll pay in '08. If you had to pay more than me, then you have a right to talk about this, if you didnt pay anywhere near what I paid, then you cant talk aout taxes. Sorry to be blunt, but I dont like when people tell me what I should and shouldnt pay.

calm down haha 4 dupes haha, i know what you mean, my dad makes $150k or so and has to pay high taxes under Bush, can only imagine what they'll be with the Messiah now.

I dont mind having to pay those taxes. Thats just how it goes. Gotta have cops, roads, and such haha. I make more, I pay more. I just dont want to have to pay a bigger PERCENTAGE.
And Im not in the above 250k group, so according to Obama my taxes should go down. But NOW he's saying small businesses will have to pay more. So "oh crap", I just cant win can I?
The government needs to buy me a new interenet service, instead of buying Austin a frisbee golf course.

ok, a few things:
to the person who says the rich won't even notice the higher taxes...are you kidding me? we are not talking bill gates. My father in law is just above the "rich" line making pretty much 250k. for starters he pays roughly 33% of his salary in taxes. he also had 4 kids. they didn't/don't qualify for any grants and only a few scholarships so he has helped all of them through school. he wanted a house where they could have their own rooms. Not a "need" but also not a ridiculous request. guess what, the man is not rich! his percentage of tax combined with the number of kids makes him barely over middle class.
to the person who said we need to do away with the "rich people work harder." I am willing to say that is by no means an absolute, but there can also be truth to it. I guess you feel about that statement the way i do when people say "rich people just had more breaks and better situations growing up than poor people." sometimes true but not an absolute

They work harder. Ok. You mean they pay others to do the hard work.
Forget sports stars, i agree they have a talent... But its diff. for each sport. IMO football players shouldn't be making the kind of money say baseball players make. 162 games compared to 16.

First of all I said they don't necessarily work harder. But to address your statement, a lot of times they do actually work harder, not just pay others to do the hard work. Take a CEO or executive of a large banking chain or any other service based industry for that matter. They pay people to sit at a desk for 40 hours a week, while they often work more than 40 hours, sometimes 60-70 hours a week. Or take retail...is working a cash register considered "hard work?" Yes, a lot of poor people work manual labor, which is often hard work, but just like we shouldn't assume all poor people are lazy, we also shouldn't assume all poor working people are actually doing hard work.
And honestly, I don't care about athletes...I don't put athletes, musicians, actors, entertainers, etc into this conversation. They lucked out basically, they won the lottery and had enough God-given talent combined with the right breaks in life to get a dream job. Yes, they may work very hard to make it as far as they do, but they're playing kids games, singing, or playing dress up. In this discussion, I'm talking about workers, not players.

A few things
I was for the sales tax that was proposed during the campaign by what's his name:) I was for it 10 years ago when Ventura proposed it in a speech I heard. Instead of the current tax system.
I'm poor I made 14,000 last year, it's not from lack of trying it's circumstances. I got a 4.1 In high school and a 3.9 my first year of college before I had to drop out for family reasons.
I paid 900.00 in federal taxes on my 14,000 dollars not to mention state, social security etc. I brought home about 600.00 a month.
I applied for help with healthcare and was turned down because I was told you had to
1. Work over 100 hours a month and make under 500.00 a month
2. Have a drug addiction
3. Have children
So the only health care I could find was 250.00 a month so there is NO way I can afford that.

I am not talking about price of health care, that is insane I'm talking about the insurane companies getting away with screwing you and the TERRIBLE service. I've know 2 people who have died because the insuance company would NOT cover their life saving surgery. One needed a bone marrow transplant and they told her that the illness must have been a pre existing condition. One because the treatment was "experimental" and they would not pay for it. I've known people who have been turned down for MRI, CT scan etc.
I also HATE the lawsuits and we could have filed one ourselves but didn't. When my father went out to get his surgery he had a stroke because the doctor cut off blood flow to his brain during surgery. Then he was sent to intensive care and we were not told. When we found him the doctor told us it went well and he would be awake soon. 8 hours later another doctor came across him and rushed him to get a scan and found he had blood clot in his brain. The emergency doctor called for an airlift to get him to pittsburgh but the snow was to bad. He lost the use of his right side and needs 24 hour care(what I do now). While he was in recovery he was getting SHARP pains that had him in tears and bent over, this was a friday and the doctor(the one who did the surgery) said he was leaving and would be back on monday to check it out and gave pain killer till then. After about 2 weeks of this pain another doctor realized that the bag he had in to help him pee had never been changed and in for a month giving him a parasite.
So his routine surgery left him in a wheel chair for the rest of his life and the doctor could care less. One of the nurses tried to talk us into filing a suit aginst him and told us he already had 7 pending..

There are always going to be rich and poor, and there are always going to be people who deserve it and don't deserve it in both categories. All that really matters is people should be working to the best of their abilities at their jobs, provided they are fortunate enough to have one right now.
