poor people dont even pay taxes

anytime anybody posts this phrase on this forum, im going to call them a liar...plain & simple

so tutall, you're a liar...no offense...this claim is repeatedly posted as fact and it's not just you

the first $100,000 that anybody makes they pay 7.65% flat rate FICA tax...EVERYBODY that works pays this...In PA, where I live, you pay 3.07% state income tax, and between 1% & 2.35% local income tax...you can qualify for a refund from PA only if you are dirt poor (less than 8000)...there's also occupational privelege taxes, unemployment taxes, sales tax, property tax, etc...

a married couple with 3 children making $50,000 annually pays no federal income tax....why?....because of exemptions and the child tax credit...let's say they made 70,000 but had the maximum credit for daycare expenses...they would pay NO federal income tax...

you don't have to be poor to pay no federal income tax

if you want to argue that their should be a federal flat tax, or replace federal income tax with a national sales tax or something like that, i can get along with that...but let's not make up exaggerated claims like poor people pay no tax...it's absurd

Agreed, and can we also stop with the notion that rich people work harder than poor people.

They don't necessarily work harder, they're just more successful. That doesn't change a thing about the argument though.

I think at sometime in people who are poor they didn't work hard, maybe in school or when they finished school and still wanted to act like a kid still and just didn't see reality, but it does get annoying on both sides because alot of poor people have been poor their whole life and can't do anything, others didn't try in school and have to work very hard to make ends meat. My uncle dropped out of college and works 14 hr days for UPS and makes like $60-70k a year but he works his *** of at his job. It's just mixed company though.

The sense of entitlement in this country will be its downfall.

Amen, amen, and amen...personal responsibility has been tossed to the curb and replaced by a false sense of entitlement.

    ***WARNING***RANT AHEAD***

This relly ticks me off when people who think that socialism is simply when someone wants the rich to pay more taxes than the poor. WELL YOU'RE WRONG. If you have not studied socialism and just go based off of what the media tells you it is, then look it up wourself and stop relying on others. If one is in favor of socialism, he doesn't want higher taxes for the rich, he wants government control of EVERYTHING!!!!!! Higher taxes is not socialism, GONVERNMENT CONTROL IS!!!!!!!! The only difference between socialism and comunism is that citizens are allowed to keep their private property. so please, DO NOT ACCUSE SOMEONE OF SOCIALSIM SIMPLY IF THEY WANT THE RICH TO PAY HIGHER TAXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry, just really had to get that out there..... been killing me when people do this since I studied this stuff in class last year

You're absolutely correct. Socialism is when the government controls everyhting. Unfortunately the newly elected president wants to control everything AND take the money from the rich. Our current leadrer seems **** bent on socialism at the very least and either communism or marxism at worst !

Personally I don't want any of those things.

It used to be people didn't want government assistance and it was a stigma. We've now come to the point of people DEMANDING the government give them something. It's disgusting !

If you want something, work for it. If for some reason you can't find a way then ask for it. The key word is ASK. This whole notion of entitlement and demands and if I don't give someone something they WANT is outrageous !

I agree 100%...and government assistance is still embarassing to some of us, although much fewer now. When my parents were my age (about 25 years ago), government assistance was a last resort and you went to extreme lengths to make sure no one found out about it...it's a complete shame how far and fast things have deteriorated.

    nope. the right way is

    Make More
    PAY MORE!

its only fair! why should someone who makes a little but of $$$ and can barely get by, have to pay the same taxes as someone WHO IS LOADED and has nothing to worry about?!?

The law of percentages ensures this with a flat percentage rate, my friend. People who make $250k would still pay more tax money as the people that make $45k as a percent. Instead, there is a graduated percentage increase for brackets. The graph of the tax rate vs. income is exponential. It's time to start recognizing who is paying for all Obama's programs...the "rich."

Why do we demonize the ones that provide the tax revenue and the jobs?
