Nobody mentions Joe Sakic in the same sentence as the other stars, just my 2 cents

Definitely Parise. Great player and great guy. My boss is his next door neighbor!

Don't get me wrong, I love Joe and do see where you are coming from. I just think he gets lots of props for what he has accomplished during his career, both from the NHL and the Hobby.

I second this, got to see him play in Boston and he was by far the best player on the ice. Mind you they were playing my Maple Leafs, but I stand behind my choice

How about Johan Franzen? The Mule is one hard working player.

Among retired players: Ron Francis, that guy is seriously underrated. 4th place of all-time NHL point leaders, 2nd place behind Gretzky in assists and yet you can pick up his rookie card for less than 5$ on ebay. Plus during all his career, he's been under radar because of the presence of flashy great players like Bossy, Gretzky, Yzerman, Lemieux, etc.
Among active players: How about Mark Streit? A 9th round pick, rejected by Mtl and adopted by NY Islanders. Playing for the worse team in the league, he still managed to get 56 pts, & is the leading scorer for his team.

I would say Savard of the Bruins is the most under rated player in the league. The guy gets 90 points a year and nobody ever talks about him. I don't even know a single person that collects his cards.

I would take Sully off your list because I think he is over rated. He never impressed me in La. Same with JJ. I don't think he will ever learn how to play defense.

Lupul? Really? I was thrilled when Edmonton got rid of that stiff, and I can't imagine Flyers fans are particularly happy with him either.
Savard, Roy, and Weber definetly..... they'd be on the top of any list I'd make.
I should add though.... that's around the NHL. I don't think you can be 'underrated' in the hobby. Collectors, by in large, under value defensman and over value goalies. I could list other examples of trends that have always been there, but no real need. Point is.... just becuase you're a good player, does't mean people should like you, therefor treat you as anything more than a common player. A guy like Marc Savard.... he does put up 90 points a year quite consistantly. I think he's a great player. I can't recall seeing him do anything, ever, that makes him anything more than the 7th or 8th most interesting player on his own team, much less the league. No matter who you are, and how good you are, the collecting public will always ignore some very good players, and fall in love with a lot of lesser names. That's just the way it goes.Last edited by 30ranfordfan; 07-16-2009 at 03:51 PM.
