    Hobby-wise & NHL-wise

    Marc Savard

Bingo! Most underrated player by far!!! Should be on the Canadian Olympic team! Or defect and play for the US team!

Also Eric Staal! I could have almost all his cards easily right now if I decided to get rid of my Sundin collection and collect Eric Staal. His cards on Ebay are so cheap!

I've heard this a lot "Savard should be on the Olympic team". Where does he fit in? The Centres are likely going to be Crosby, E Staal, Lecavalier, and Thornton. MAYBE a two-way guy like Mike Richards gets on.... and one of those guys I mentioned moves to the wing.

There are other centres like Getzlaf or Roy that I could see playing wing, but Savard?? No chance.

He gets left off of teams like this becuase he plays the deepest position we've got, and isn't good enough or unique enough to make the squad. He's a prolific passer. I'd love to have him on my NHL team.... but when I'm picking the best 4 pivots for Team Canada? I don't think Savard would make my 'B' team.

All this is a strange phenomenon which seems hard to change. I don't find it strange that D-men gets less attention, afterall most of them don't do flasy things (like Orr), nor do I find it strange that flashy players gets attention, unfairly or not. This goes for all sports worldwide, male or female, if one guy/girl is more fun to watch but perhaps isn't most important on the team, well he/she gets all the headlines anyway. Never forget all this is play, a game, entertainment. We watch it to be entertained. The most entertaining person to watch gets the most attention.

But for the rest it's very annoying, that nationality or town/state can affect the hobbylove so much. Ovechkin has done fine despite in playing coldspot Washington, but really, he should have at least equal values to Crosby, if one think about all the important stuff that make you famous: Personality, Flash, goals, headlines, etc. But he's RUSSIAN, so it will never happen. Then we have guys like Carey price who plays in one of the best hobbytowns Montreal. Price will be a major headache for many collectors when they finally realise his cards are the most overvalued and overhyped of all, it's a big risk that happens anyway.

As for underrated, there's tons. Cam Ward (put him in Montreal and he'd been double as big in hobby as Price). Rick Nash. Big goal scorer, sometimes fun to watch, right nationality, but he plays for one of the worst teams hobbywise. Why isn't his cards hotter? It's a mystery.

Heatley of course, or Spezza. Kovy, sure all three earn some love but a lot lot less then they should have. Getzlaf, well Anaheim is no good place. Zetterberg, that's strange since Detroit is a good hobbyplace, perhaps cause of his nationally or low-key personality? Personality got a lot to do with things.

Steve Mason. He won the calder for god's sake, why isn't he hotter??? Columbus again.

I agree a 100% with Marc Savard being way under rated. I would also have to list Brendan Morrow as he is the heart of the Dallas stars look what happened to the Stars last year with him being injured. The same could be said about Ryan Kesler who playoff run last year really made you notice him.
