Not technically true. Vince's assist and turnover rates per 48 minutes were both better than Hedo's, and that was with a bad team. I think people still see him as the same guy he was in Toronto, since he's been in relative obscurity in New Jersey all these years since.
I do tend to agree with you on the whole argument about not blowing up a team that just went to the finals though, and I'm a Magic fan. Vince is definitely an upgrade on paper, but we had two 50 win seasons in a row using a quirky lineup that gave other teams trouble. Shard is probably going to have to play the 3 more with Bass and Gortat looking to get more minutes, and so we are essentially turning into a more orthodox team. I'm not going to say we will not be as good, but you've gotta figure a lot of teams have good lineups on paper that don't actually work, but ours did and we changed the dynamic dramatically. I think we could have kept the same team and still improved anyway, because you have to think Dwight's offensive game will get better the more time he spends with Ewing. Look out when that happens.
Edit - Oh and White Chocolate: meh. I can't believe some analysts are actually talking about him displacing Jameer in the lineup. Jameer was an All-Star that came back too early! He'll be lucky to move Johnson further down the bench. He would have got the minimum, since that's all we can give at this stage, so it's not exactly a big gamble and he's wanted to play with us since before he was drafted. Maybe he can have some success feeding an offense that is vastly better than him and will make him look better anyway - like his good old days.Last edited by chriso_10; 08-21-2009 at 05:27 AM.

i for one believe hedo turkoglu is one of the most overrated players in the league. he isnt in the same class as vince carter. vince is a go to guy so there for he suppose to be shoot first. like i said earlier the magic got embarrassed in the finals. they had to go to 7 games with boston without kg and leon powe. they beat up on the cavs but only because of match up problems. the magic knew that there appearance in the finals last year was due to those circumstances and thats why they made those moves.

I agree with you that Vince didn't have a great team in NJ, but Devin Harris was a great player in that team and will still be. With the Magic acquiring Vince, we will see him unfold into the player that he has always wanted to be, he is now motivated into possibly winning his first title, and I think with that alone, he will be a much better player, team player, and heart driven player.
I agree with you on what analysts are saying about Jason Williams, Jameer will not be replaced with him, white chocolate will only be his backup, but I hope he will be an explosive backup after getting use to coming back into the league. I hope to see him have a great come-back into the game!
Yes, the Magic had to respond to the changes other teams have been making in this league especially what changed Boston and Cleveland have made. Boston in particular who their lineup amazes me. I think Boston is truly the biggest contender in the East on paper, but the Magic are still the team to beat because of their lineup and they are the defending Eastern Conference Champs.
All I know, is that this season will be one of the best for a long time coming. I can't wait to see the season unfold. Again, ANYTHING can happen, especially with such dramatic changes to the biggest contending teams for the title.

Yes, Boston has acquired an amazing team this offseason. And the Cavs have a strong team but bleh lol
The Magic have traded a few good players. But have signed/traded for some great players. With getting Vince Carter, it cancels Hedo out by a long shot. Courtney Lee was a great player, and I am disappointed in having him traded, but it's not a HUGE loss to the Magic. Alston was only a temporary replacement for Jameer. With Tonie Battie leaving, the Magic now have Brandon Bass and Matt Barnes
great backups so that cancels out the big men the Magic lost and some for Hedo since Barnes can play at just about any position minus the Center and be very good. With Jason Williams coming back and being Jameer Nelson's backup, that would be great if white chocolate comes back strong. Mickael Pietrus will probably be starting, and he is a very solid player--when he played in Golden State he was a BEAST!
And a few other players who I haven't mentioned.
As you can see, the losses the Magic have had have been replaced with great additions. The Magic will be the team to beat not only because they are the reigning Eastern Conference Champs, but because they also have a great line-up.
Only time will tell and we will have to wait and see what happens with these three top teams in the East--Orlando, Boston, and Cleveland.
Anything can happen, and I am waiting to see what does.

My whole point for posting what I did was to show that, while all 3 teams have made moves, only Orlando has lost key players from last years team - therefore, IMO, they have had the worst offseason of the 3 teams.
