If the rest of the country banned blacks and other minorites, we would have no other problems.

I am doubting that he said this...

Are you doubting that he said the quote? The quote is not in doubt, its the fact that he got fired (might be to extreme) but he is still a racist pig.

    .

He did not get fired. He resigned.

He did get resigned. You are correct.

Ryche- THIS IS THE QUOTE: "When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either."

Like i have said, i was interpreting the quote to show how much of a pig Lott was. Read the quote and tell me what it means as strom thurmond was a dixiecrat who believed in segregation forever and white supremacy.

That's a dangerous game you are playing. Trying to say what someone really means by a quote.

I don't understand how 'your' interpretation of Lotts statement shows how much of a pig Lott is.

'Your' interpretation certainly shows how you feel...

What else could it mean. He specificaly says that he is proud of voting for a known racist who was in favor of banning all blacks and keeping jim crow laws in the south. He further goes on to say that if the rest of the country followed HIM and voted the same way, then "we wouldnt have had all these problems over the years."

Btw- i am not interpreting his quote. THAT IS WHAT HE SAID AND WHAT HE WANTED TO SAY. He was forced to resign for these comments. He apologized for the comments. How else could one interpret it.

Maybe he was talking about his stance on other issues besides race.

ryche- Thurmond was a known racist. Lott is supporting his ideas. Please explain your ideas rather than just criticize mine as i have NO IDEA how you can defend this man

He admitted to it. I don't know how you can honestly defend a man who voted against the civil rights act, voting rights act, Martin Luther King day, and voted against an anti-lynching law. Thurmond was a racist pig and Lott supported him. I don't care if you say that he said these comments on someone's birthday.

Lets put it in a different perspective. If i say that i voted for Hitler, I support Hitler, and if Hitler was chancelor of Germany, then Germany would never have faced any of the problems that it did after world war II and never would have had an economic fiasco, now while I never said that i hate jews or i think six million people should have died, i am agreeing with a man who did. Lott never said jim crow laws should stay in the south or that there should not be a voting rights act, BUT THURMOND DID AND LOTT IS SUPPORTING THURMOND.

"When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either." Thats the quote. I was just defining it to further demonstrate his racist attributes.

Also, if you really don't believe that Lott was a racist, how about the fact that he voted against the voting rights act of 1965, voted against the civil rights act, and opposed making Martin Luther King's birthday a federal holiday.

Yeah, he really isnt racist and im sure he didnt mean that quote. Democrats just spinned it. He really was saying that blacks are a great group of people.

It is nice that people like you feel so strongly when it is a Republican, but say nothing when it is Democrat. Thanks for proving my double standard/hypocrisy theory. :)

Much like people where clueless when they voted for Barak Obama for President.

You'll have to point out where I defended either man.

I think that in discussions like this, it's important to stick to the known facts
