First time I can ever remember being this disgusted with the Tigers where I just had to turn them off. How can you not play to win? Below can barely reach 90mph. Chance Ruffin makes his debut with the bases loaded against Quentin. Carlos Guillen is good for at least two extras bases for the other team his defensive range is so limited. And might as well sit Betemit off. After all, it was only against the White Sox. Leyland has already cost Detroit two pennants, he might as well try for three.....yet everyone thinks this guy is so great......makes me sick

You don't have to throw hard to be decent (see Mark Buehrle) and I think Below pitched decent, however, I thought as it was happening putting Ruffin in that spot was a HORRID decision, and it turns out it was. game up 4 runs, 2 of them inherited base runners.
However Guillen's range is better than Raburn's, and Guillen can atleast hit.
One game from a guy who won't make another start probably though is no reason to claim the sky is fallingHidden Content

Dont get me wrong I love Guillen, but i like to win games when we are in a pennant race and i think you should play your best players to give yourself the best chance at winning. Leyland chose to take last night off and give the game away. Guillen couldn't even get to 2nd base to cover what could have been a dp ball hit to Rayburn at 3rd so Ryan had to throw to first.

They never showed it, it looked to me Raburn never even wanted to go to 2nd..
Who plays instead of Guillen to give us "the best chance to win then"

Took you all of two starts to agree with me that Duane Below is not a quality pitcher, eh? I didn't know Chance Ruffin was up either...I watched him single-handedly blow like a six run lead against the Clippers a few weeks back; I'd take Below over him any day. Might need to work on those minor league guys.

I think Below actually pitched ok for the most part, Ruffin gave up those 2 runs which will make the start look real bad though.
Not an excuse but Below threw a CLEAR strike 3 to Dunn (gamecast showed it, and the entire Chicago crowd started boo'ing big time because they all knew it was strike 3) but it wasnt, and it all went down hill from there.
I never thought Below was a major league pitcher though, but wasn't going to throw him under the bus to begin with.
Ruffin got called up the night before last night. I thought right away they were rushing him up way to quick. Tigers have one of the worst farm systems in Baseball though, so can't fix guys that aren't suppose to be very good lol

Back and forth game today that ends with a W! Verlander not the sharpest he's ever been, made 2 mistake pitches and paid for them, but gave 8 strong innings, 7Ks including a 100 MPH fastball for his 119th pitch that was strike 3 to Konerko.
Cabrera 2 RBIs on 2 singles, RBI from Peralta and VMart and the newest Tiger, Wilson Betemit, clutch RBI in the top of the 8th.
Valverde closed the door for save #27 in as many chances on the season.

Dan, I have a trade offer for you...how would you like to send us the immortal Ryan Raburn and a bucket of baseballs for Matt LaPorta? Raburn couldn't possibly SUCK any more than Matt.

I would pass, since he was demoted to a bench player, he actually hits the 2-3 games a week he plays in.
HOWEVER, for LaPorta i'll send you a 20oz bottle of Pepsi, a cheeseburger and french fries and INCLUDE the worst pitcher ever, David Purcey. He can walk the bases loaded before getting pulled with NO issues!
(already has done it twice in the last 10 days

If you're sending us Purcey, you have to take Mitch Talbot AND send us three bats.
