I just wanna say really quick, im pretty sure Martin Brodeur already topped Patrick Roy. The stats show it, but hey, in terms of talent, its opinion.

True. I was responding to the comments about this season.
Good. Stars need to be benched once in awhile.

Forgot something? Gretzky was a center and Ovechkin is a winger. Centers get a lot of points from assists.
Also it's kind of hard to compare Gretzky to Ovechkin as they play in two totally diferent eras. Gretzky's prime was in the run-and-gun era of the 80's with strong linemates, particularly Jari Kurri.
Also, Ovechkin scored less goals last season due to a couple factors:
* Washington's PP was weak last season. Look at his goals to PP goals for each season.
* The first half of last season, he didn't get many goals on the road.
Notice that many player's point totals have slowly gone down since 2005-06. This was the first year they heavily cracked down on obstruction penalties (hooking, holding, and interference) so there were a lot more open powerplay opportunities that were capitalized on. Teams and players have learned since how to workaround not getting penalized as much and build better defensive strategies.
The other thing is league parity amongst the teams since the lockout. Even the worst team in the league is able to get around 60 points by the end of the season. Before that, those same teams were lucky to get half of that.

I agree. There could be a next Roy. Gretzky was on a whole new level never seen before and never seen again (maybe a glimmer of it seen by Lemieux for a few years). Roy is no where near that type of level when it comes to goaltending, if anything the term should be "next Broduer", not "next Roy". Leave it to a Habs fan to think Roy is the greatest goaltender :P. He was dam good, but not the greatest haha.
This is also a good point, the times they are a changin'!

Next Roy?
What a joke, 16th in shutouts. Bad save percentage.
There are 8 goalies that have already played the position better than Roy, arguably 11, as Roy did not impress me as much as Crozier, Hextall, or Eddie Giacomin.

Esposito
Parent
Dryden
Sawchuk
Hasek
Belfour
Brodeur
Crozier
Giacomin
Hextall

I know they arent in the top 20 (probably), but, you gotta admit Ryan Miller (who is on the sabres :) ) and Marc-Andre Fleury have some talent also.
And we cant forget Mr. Billy Smith!!!!!!
Wow, how did we get from Gretzky to goalies? lol :)
Doesnt matter, i like where this is going! :D
