Uggggggghhhhhhhh..... I realize the Sens made the finals in 06-07, but imagine if they had chosen Chara over Redden after 05-06? Ottawa actually could have won that Finals series IMO.

Also I'm assuming you meant the 6' 7" Brian Boyle in your post. Dan Boyle is tiny lol.

Check, thanks, he beat the tar out of Brian in a recent game.

Haha, when you mentioned the possibility of a Chara vs. Dan Boyle fight, all I could think of was this:

Mooneyes ur looking at this from a bias point of view (obviously). Yes Chara is good and ur facts are convincing but i could choose 2-3 better defensemen right now, Weber and Keith to name examples. Weber does just as good as a job shutting down players. I know u said Chara's point totals are decent but Currently Weber has 38 points and Chara has 28, and thats darn impressive considering he is on Nashville. Put Weber on Boston and all his stats will boost immensely. And Honestly I think most of the GM's would pick Sidney Crosby for their team, heck id even take Toews over Chara.

This year I think Weber is doing better. But 2 years ago (and for 1/2 the year last year before he was hurt) I would take Karlsson over any of the others. I also think he is on his way back and will be in old form by next year (lets cut your foot off and see how long it takes to come back lol)

I still find him to be one of the most exiting players in the league.

As for the comments about him making more mistakes and costing the team way more than he makes good plays. Watch him for an entire season. I have jumped off my seat with a fist pump probable 90% more than I have said some choice words while watching him.

All I know is I watch hockey to be entertained and that kid does that all the time. After all he is the best skater since Bobby Orr (Don't attack me. It was Phil Esposito that said it lol)

If your a GM, and your goal is to win the only trophy that matters, your first choice is the most dominating DEFENDER in the NHL today. Zedeno Chara. The greatest player in the world is supposed to be Crosby, with Malkin in the top 3-4, total pts for both in a 4 game shut-out in the PLAY-OFFS,....ZERO. So, who really is the Most Valuable Player? And yeah Chara plays on a excellent team, but a HUGE reason the team is great is Z, his signing was a game changer for the Bruin's. The dude is The fittest player on the team, logs 40 minutes in the play-offs, has a bomb from the point, is a great playmaker, can play forward on the power play, and his physical presence is Dominate against Any player....6' 7" Brian Boyle wants to mess with Z' teammates, Z taps him on the shoulder, than turns him around and rag dolls him like a @#$%@. The intangibles he brings to the Bruin's are off the charts, and he accumulates decent points, but his main job is to totally Shut-Down the best offensive players in the world and win play-off rounds. He does is better than anyone, simply, one of the best Shut-down D-men of all time a future HOF'r.I doubt I could change one of Weber's biggest fans as he thinks Weber is the best, but if you polled all the GM's which D-man they could add to make a run at the CUP this year, I would bet it would be a unanimous pick, Chara is a freak of nature. As for the Norris, who cares, that is just a popularity contest for flashy guys like Subban and Karlsson, but the immature mistakes they make in the play-offs, or regular season, are Game, and Series killers. And physically, they scare No one....as for Weber, put him on the Bruin's, and he would be All-world, but he would still have to defer to Chara, the leader and best player on the team. jmho.

Think about it like this, how much worse would Chara be if he did not have his height? Lets be honest here.....a lot of the parts of his game revolve around his freakish height. His stick is hard because its longer and it's heavier. The longer stick makes it easier to reach pucks. Eliminate that part of his game and he's probably worse than Weber. Also if he's such a "BEAST" why is he only +11? Yes it's may be just a stat but if he is such a playmaker and a defensive stud shouldn't it be higher? As you said he is the best d-man in the game.

That's kind of a silly argument. When Chara first started, he could barely skate. He was terrible, mostly because of how tall he was. And he has worked hard to become a great defenseman.

How good would Shea Weber be if he were 5' 10"?

Ok. What if Karlsson were 4 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier, what kind of player would he be? That's why it's a silly argument, not the thread itself.

the ole what if game eh?...what if my Grandma had wheels? she would be a bus!! ;P What if Weber wasn't built like a Brick S....House....as for Cygnus participating, he is saying the "what if" argument is silly....the overall debate on the other hand is free game for anyone....and if you play for the B's, your production Will take a hit, that is just part of the deal, no Crosby/Malkins piling up points while your on the ice, Crosby cheats a bit like all great producer's, no cheating allowed for Bergeron or anyone else or your traded....Some D-man for the Pen's I have never heard of leads the league in plus/minus....

Anyhoo, I actually haven't seen Weber play that much, but I will take the OP's word for it, I will give him the Heavyweight title, but Chara is the Super Heavyweight, it is what it is....

    I'm out, carry on...
