Just like at one time Blacks had ZERO rights and now they have the same rights as any other race in America.

So what is the foundation for the rights, just a group of people (no matter how large or small) that are a true representation of the masses, say they are elected, novel concept, huh?

The foundation of rights is logic and reason.

Then they decide the rights, maybe even borrow some of them from the Constitution, throw out what they don't like, and then just keep molding it and reshaping it until someone changes their mind, gets booted out of office, etc.? Is there any baseline to the rights since every person has their own interpretation, can a baseline ever be determined, a group such as this wouldn't dare use the Constitution too much would they? Isn't that a document inspired by God-fearing men over 200 years ago, that would mean it may have a Christian foundation in its origination, this group determining our rights wouldn't want that right?

Our founders were intelligent, but still very much flawed.

Many of them had slaves, many of them believed in things that today would be considered absolutely insane.

I do not worship our constitution nor the men who wrote it, I do NOT think it's perfect, in fact I think there are several things within it that are very much flawed.

One thing I LOVE about the Constitution is that we are able to amend it, the first 10 amendments is where we get the majority of our rights today....again, these rights were given for the people, by the people.

The way rights are shaped has everything to do with our very evolution on morality.

And yes, Morality is very much subjective.

I find it amusing how you reference American history and todays society. Correct me if I am wrong but don't you preach about making change NOW?? Why do you use history from hundreds of years ago to make yous statement for what we are living in now? We have come along way since then. Civil rights,womens rights,all kind of changes.You only point out flaws that defends your stance but never ALL THE FLAWS. But most here now have caught on to your act so we all get it. Alex - Why did you ignore my question about rights to defend life as well as you defend rights to destroy or end life?? Do I and the little old lady have the same rights to defend ourselves?? Seems like the things you skip you either can't answer or condone via your silence; correct me please and tell me if we can defend ourselves against criminals, rapists, murderers, and terrorists?? What does logic and reason have to say about that? My logic says that if its him or me its gonna definitely be him!

I'm going to make this as simple as I can...

We have the rights to defend ourselves, of course we do, the rights you and I have are no different than that of an elderly person.

So I know what you want to hear about....abortion.

Why are liberals for abortion?

Very simple....because we believe the rights of a woman and her body override the NON-Rights of an unborn, unviable fetus.

It is unreasonable to give MORE rights to something that can't even think or feel over a fully adult woman.

However, once it reaches viability, it is considered a person with rights and thus it is protected.

This is logical.

And for the record, I HATE abortion, I wish no one would ever choose to do it.

It makes me SICK to think a person can use it as a contraceptive....

However, I will still defend the rights of all women to get an abortion.

Because rights are not about what you like and don't like, it's about what is reasonable and logical.

You know what else I hate?

Cigarettes....They do nothing but cause harm and misery to the user, I wish it had never been invented.

However, I will NEVER be in favor of banning cigarettes or try to stop people from smoking.

Because I'm a TRUE liberal, and I believe in TRUE freedom.

The freedom to do whatever the hell you want to do.

As long as you don't infringe the rights of others.
