But would we have HUGE terrorists groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS without a religion like Islam? That's a better question.

they would not be like Al Qaeda or ISIS, because they would not be religious based, but they would be just as big, just as inhumane, and just as prejudice, maybe it would be eye color, skin color, language, but it would be something.

    ou're missing the point Shrew...

My point was the inconsistency of many conservatives.

They say that they are against gay marriage (not because they are bigots) but because they care for the sanctity of marriage.

This is either a HUGE LIE or they are ignorant.

Because there are TONS of things that can ruin the sanctity of marriage and they don't actively try to ban....like divorce and adultery.

Furthermore, the fact that divorce and adultery is so high in the U.S is proof that there is NO SUCH THING as the "sanctity of marriage".

Marriage isn't a holy thing given to humans by god.

Marriage isn't a religious thing either.

It's simply two people that make it official that they want to be together forever.

Personally I think marriage in general is outdated and unnecessary in today's modern world.

We don't need it to be happy, we don't need it to keep the human race going, and as long as both pairs are responsible, a family IS possible without marriage.

If anything, many people nowadays only want to get married for the benefits....not because they actually think or feel that it's necessary.

you are talking politician, I am talking citizen. So I guess I can agree that many republican politicians are screwed up, backward, lying idiots.

Do you understand that I've already said in the past that I AM OK with prostitution, drug use, and suicide, right?

    I am a TRUE LIBERAL.

As long as you don't infringe the rights of another human being, I don't literally care what you do.

Want to sell your body for money? Why not? Go for it!

but what lead people to be drug addicts, self mutilating, and prostitutes? I am all for freedom, but when you have an illness, you need help, and you may not know you need it. self mutilation is often a result of a mental illness, drug addiction can be the result of many factors that can be treated. prostitution is often underage, runaways, homeless, victims of abuse, they need help.

If there is one thing our government should do, it is to help society. we are spending time and money on social issues that affect a small percentile, but yet we have very negative issues that have existed for decades and we do nothing to correct them. I say fix what you got before you buy something else.

as far as the death panels, I am not sold on this yet, but we will see, anything can happen, but so can anything else.

libs vs conservatives on the breakdown of society, nothing new there. when it comes to the people running the show, both sides are messed up. when it comes to the average person, most are not that bad.

the sad part is, if both sides gave a crap and wasn't crooked as crap, they could work together and get some amazing stuff done.

A death panel by any other name is called the Insurance Company's Claims Adjuster and Utilization Review.

I believe the GOP and Dems are controlled by the same people (corporations and rich donors)....

But conservatives and liberals are not, they both have STRONG ideological beliefs as to how a society should function.

Even though I don't like the conservative mindset and in fact believe it to be dangerous for any society much less America....

I don't actually believe they are controlled by anyone except their flawed logic perhaps.

In other words, conservatives are actually not as insidious as the GOP in my opinion.

They truly believe that which they say...

So when the GOP can change it's mind about gay marriage, the way they are slowly starting to do, it is because they are not genuine in their beliefs and now the tide is very much against them...they care more for their party than they do for their supposed belief.

Conservatives on the other hand will NOT change their minds no matter how much logic you bring to the table, no matter how big the opposition is.

I'll leave it up to you and others to decide if this is a good thing or not...

Funny. Conservatives are so evil yet they aren't the ones bankrupting our future generations.

Obama flip flopped on gay marriage just 2-3 years ago. A lot of Dems followed suit. Now this is the standard for all?

Im for gay rights but thats a lie because im an conservative.

    ...

Per usual you are completely wrong with your one size fits all categorizations. I would consider myself conservative and my mind has been swayed on gay rights and gay marriage for two reasons: 1. It is the right thing to do. People should be able to choose who they love and 2. I want to be pragmatic and make gays, minorities, etc perfectly welcome in the Republican Party so we never have a chance of electing somebody of the ilk of Barrack Obama ever again.

    Pretty simple, eh?

When will you people understand that I DO NOT talk about ordinary citizens.

I'm talking about POLITICIANS, when I say "conservatives", I mean conservative politicians, not regular conservative citizens who have zero power.

But I digress, my conservative criticism is indeed a generalized one.

That's why I'm going to add the caveat that MOST conservative politicians will NOT change their minds, no matter what.

Especially if they are religious far right lunatics like Huckabee who just recently called out the GOP for their sudden turn on gay marriage.

But, let me now aim a criticism at regular American conservatives....

You are NOT going to be easily given credit if and when you do change your mind about gays and gay marriage...at least not by liberals such as myself.

It is BLATANTLY obvious that gays deserve every single right that straights get...

Why the hell did it take so long for anyone to see this?

Because now the majority agree with it, and you want to be in said majority?

But fine, lets say that you DID see the error in your ways, this is still a good thing.

But, it is suspicious why it took so long and why so MANY conservatives today STILL continue to be anti-gay.

History will remember ALL of this, and history will NOT be as forgiving as the general public.

Congrats conservatives that have FINALLY open your minds, but I hope you can also come to the realization that you were wrong to think that gays should be treated differently than straights.

Rights come from us, the people, and the way we shape society.

So the right to free expression (for example) is something we as a society deemed to be logically reasonable for everyone to be able to do.

So rights change like the wind, not really that different than the way laws change today, right? So what is the foundation for the rights, just a group of people (no matter how large or small) that are a true representation of the masses, say they are elected, novel concept, huh? Then they decide the rights, maybe even borrow some of them from the Constitution, throw out what they don't like, and then just keep molding it and reshaping it until someone changes their mind, gets booted out of office, etc.? Is there any baseline to the rights since every person has their own interpretation, can a baseline ever be determined, a group such as this wouldn't dare use the Constitution too much would they? Isn't that a document inspired by God-fearing men over 200 years ago, that would mean it may have a Christian foundation in its origination, this group determining our rights wouldn't want that right?

Let me ask you a practical question instead of pie in the sky. Under these rights "deemed to be logically reasonable for everyone", do I have the right to defend my life against someone trying to kill me or does the perp have the right to violate me? If someone in Oregon is legally allowed to kill herself, I should be legally allowed to preserve my life, right? If I am allowed to defend my life, by what means am I allowed to do it? Just so you know I am not a frail little old lady, I am 6'1" and 240 lbs.
