I think it has to do with eBay selling rules, the seller has to actually sell something, so that's why some people offer a paper clip or something small in addition to a spot in a break. Since if you win a spot, you're technically not guaranteed to get something. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that's why.

That's exactly it. It is against ebay rules to sell a spot in a game of "chance" so breakers will sell a business card, a toploader, their own autograph...any number of things to get around the rules.

When did eBay want to make Canadian Dollars (for Canadian Sellers only, of course) the default currency?
And if I want to list in USD, what must I change it on EVERY SINGLE auction?? If I chose "sell another item like this" (or whatever the link is) then the the title, description, photo, shipping info, and even the starting price will all be the same....... why does the Currency revert?

I haven't listed thru ebay directly in years but it sounds like a technical error. Have you called ebay?

I listed 20 items last weekend and experienced that same issue every time. And everytime I forgot to change it to US dollars, it would pop up errors due to my shipping currency listed as US $. Grrrrr.

Oh man.... you have to bring up the thing I HATE THE MOST about eBay

My life would improve 1000 fold, if I knew that I never had to speak to anyone on the phone ever again. I would rather suffer through eBay's software glitches, or just stop using it as a forum to sell on.... than I would call them. (No, I have no issues with speaking to people, in person is fine. I just hate the phone). I'd be happy to send them an email, and get a response back in a week. I did spend a few minutes trying to find some kind of general customer service email to send to, looks like it doesn't exist.
Yeah.... a company based solely on the internet, and you can't email them. (I realize this is to prevent thousands of emails a day from coming in)

Yeah, I figure that's it... I should be able to find some kind of "default currency"
I'm guessing they've decided to make the default Canadian, but the "sell another one like this" shouldn't be changing anything from auction to auction.
I've got no problem with the idea that if I start a new auction from scratch, the system would default to my native currency. That makes perfect sense..... but just like all my shipping options maintaining themselves from one auction to the next, I would expect that "like this" means everything should be identical, and then I will edit want I want to.
This explains why I've been seeing more and more listings in Canadian dollars though.

I've been having the same issues since about 10 days ago when listing on eBay.ca, it will list items in CAD instead of USD. Even when I change the listing to USD and make another listing off of that one it seems to switch back to CAD randomly. Another one of those things on eBay that doesn't work the way it should. Just yet another thing to look for when listing.
I listed 4 Motown Madness cards the other day. Someone made an offer on all of them. 3 were in USD and 1 was in CAD. Why? Who the heck knows.Master List: Hidden Content

Sort of an ebay issue / mailing and customs issue I am hoping someone here can shed some light on. Im looking at buying a high end item from ebay. The add states that it will be sent Fed-ex and the shipping rate includes the brokerage fees charged by Fed-Ex. I asked the seller if that meant I wouldn't be charged again by customs for a brokerage fee. They stated they had no idea and I should call canada customs to find out. I will do that, but I am hoping somebody here might be able to answer this before I have to wait on hold and talk to a bunch of people on the phone and explain the situation over and over again. Also, to be clear, this seller does not use the Global Rip Off program through ebay, they would be sending it directly to me. anybody have any insight?
