I call every liquid beverage a 'drink' b/c I am lazzzzzy!
In some areas of Minnesota, if you say 'soda,' people will look at you funny. In Tennessee, no one I knew used 'pop.' When I moved to SW Missouri in 2001, I was surprised to find out 'pop' is the preference here.

LOL ooooo but looking up at the poll statistics here...it seems to be SOOOOOOODA.
Any other voters out there...lets show shayne and ashley that its soda.
Why do people call it pop exactly? I heard it was because it popped out of a vending machine, but not all soda pops out of a vending machine...i.e. fountain drinks...this is its own little civil war

I did some research and here's what I found:
The word soda comes from soda-water (sodium bicarbonate with acid to create fizz). Its original meaning was sodium carbonate, Na2CO3, but has evolved into one of the generic terms for a soft drink.
Pop was introduced later in 1812 by Robert Southey,
A new manufactory of a nectar, between soda-water and ginger-beer, and called pop, because ‘pop goes the cork’ when it is drawn.
