Someone retaining a weapon ??
I'll bet everything I have that if you just let people defend themselves we're better off. If the bad guys know we're supposed to call 911 and wait for "the man" to come and protect us then we're screwed.
I want the bad guy to have to worry about the common man.
I'm with you. I dont want to have to depend on "911". It cant ALWAYS be there. Maybe in the big cities, but now where I live.

i love how throughout this entire debate, the ones opposed to guns, refuse to address the 2 posts dealing with the enviromental and social benefit of hunting.
I get that you have your opinion and will not be swayed. However, the enviroment would rebel if there wasn't a balancing out of animals. Thus the reason that every year some state asks hunters to keep some animal in check.

Ensberg... Possible protection of the environment does not constitute slaughter, in my opinion, otherwise every idiot with a half-ton diesel that isn't even used productively would be killed.

ok. people are entitled to their opinions and most are not likely to be swayed. I will put forth one true story and I am curious to see your response. I will not try to convince you afterward.
5 years ago, the number of deer in colorado were multiplying beyond what they normally were. As a result, the number of mountain lions expanded as well. While most mountain lions hunted the deer, a large number decided on easier prey and started stalking and attacking children. The state asked hunters to come and hunt both the deer and the mountain lions to protect children. Within 2 weeks, problem was solved.
I have a few questions. What do you think was wrong about the way this was handled? Do you think that since it is survival of the fittest that no one should have stepped in and protected the kids who were being attacked?

Maybe they should have sat down and talked with the mountain lions, explaining how their actions were harmful and that they should change ?

I think any use of guns is wrong. Period. What's nasty is the fact that, because of the pollution of guns, peolple sometimes have to use them. In this instance, however, I believe that evolution would have worked it out. Each species of animal is on this earth for one reason: because they survived. We can do so without guns. I have a very rare view when it comes to these matters, though.

Try living in rural Oregon. They're aplenty.
