Did you not get the "Obama supporters are Muslim" memo?

"The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote."

Not partisan, yeah right. And people accused me of lying when I said religious leaders threatened their followers with Hell if they voted Democrat. Well, I think this speaks for itself. This is just an adult version of that stupid woman who wouldn't give Halloween candy to children of Obama supporters. These ignorant, spiteful, hateful, petty, vituperative, regressive and anti-humanist right-wingers are letting their true selves out and every last drop of nastiness inside them soak themselves to the bone.
If I could talk to this guy face to face, what I'd say to him couldn't be worked off in 50 years of penitence.

They do. When my brother killed himself over a manipulative girl in 1997, a church invited my parents and me to their sermon. We thought they would be supportive to a family going through an obviously difficult time. Instead, they preached a sermon of how people who commit suicide all go to hell. No Bible verse for this belief was given, of course.

Wow, that takes some kind of nerve. I would have let them hear it until cops forced me to leave the damn place.

wow...that is terrible...i cant believe some religious people can even mutter stuff like that when your dealing with such grief
i have been in a similar situation when a good friend of mind died 2 summers ago...the minister called him Mike 3 or 4 times when his name was Matt until finally his mother interrupted him and said "get his name right"....but that wasn't the bad part
the minister went on to say "if Matt isn't in hell right now, he's got scorched hair because he was that close"...half of the people there couldn't believe what he had just said, and at the end when friends were able to share memories, a bunch of us basically told the minister he was way off and comments like that were completely uncalled for...

man I hate hearing stuff like this. I know it is real and I know these nutcases exist. Problem is, there are thousands of churches across the country and the ones you hear about are these so everyone begins to assume that is the majority.
The AP never does an article on someone that went to church at enjoyed themselves and nothing controversial was said!
Redgone and Jamming - I am sorry those things happened, especially at times such as those.
