i just asked an older co-worker what they thought of the picture and she said it was quite offensive

personally, i find it funny just because it is offensive...tiger pimp is right on tho, i seriously doubt the artist had any intent...but the editor failed poorly

We share a similar sense of humor.

That said, after my initial chuckle I was stunned at the comic's lack of judgment.

How come everything is racist now? Why cant people just take it in stride, at one time in there life everyone has probably been targeted racialy and its up to them to shrug it off or pout about it. Anyways I thought it was funny but agree that the editor should have used better judgment. With that being said I dont think its racist imo.

The chairman of the New York Post, Rupert Murdoch, personally apologized Tuesday for an editorial cartoon published by the newspaper that drew charges of racism.

"Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted," said the statement from Murdoch, who is also chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, which owns the paper.

"I can assure you -- without a doubt -- that the only intent of that cartoon was to mock a badly written piece of legislation.

"It was not meant to be racist, but unfortunately, it was interpreted by many as such. We all hold the readers of the New York Post in high regard, and I promise you that we will seek to be more attuned to the sensitivities of our community."

So since we have a "black" president, we cant use monkeys or gorillas in comedy? Pretty soon we wont even be able to talk, because it'll all be racist haha. It seems people just want somethin to gripe about. I can understand if the monkey was supposed to be Obama, but it wasnt. They funny thing is, most people automatically had racist thoughts, even if you were against it. Think about it, when you saw a monkey that had to do with politics, i bet everyone thought "O, because he's black they are comparing him to a monkey". haha.

Chimp cartoon apology not enough, Sharpton says

Good, but not enough, the Rev. Al Sharpton said in response to New York Post Chairman Rupert Murdoch's apology for a controversial editorial cartoon published in the newspaper. Online Wednesday, some Post readers reacted similarly.

Why do people still pay any attention to this guy? He and Jesse Jackson are two of the most racist people in America.

Those of you who believe it wasn't racist or the monkey wasn't representing Obama, then why was a monkey chosen instead of donkey or another animal?

The main reason is what I said before, the jokes and phrases that have been around for years such as "a monkey could do that job," calling a group of people you dislike a bunch of monkeys, the theory that monkeys typing would eventually produce Shakespeare, etc...people who are bad at what they do are called monkeys all the time, or at least used to be.

I think people are stretching greatly to think the monkey was supposed to represent Obama. As has been said, Obama did not write the stimulus bill, his part of it was to endorse and sign...the writing was all Congress. Just another example of people looking for racism...I honestly would have never thought of it that way if someone else hadn't mentioned it first.

Nothing whatsoever to do with racism.
