    The main reason is what I said before, the jokes and phrases that have been around for years such as "a monkey could do that job," calling a group of people you dislike a bunch of monkeys, the theory that monkeys typing would eventually produce Shakespeare, etc...people who are bad at what they do are called monkeys all the time, or at least used to be.

    I think people are stretching greatly to think the monkey was supposed to represent Obama. As has been said, Obama did not write the stimulus bill, his part of it was to endorse and sign...the writing was all Congress. Just another example of people looking for racism...I honestly would have never thought of it that way if someone else hadn't mentioned it first.

    Absolutely agree with both paragrahs. there were even a couple of super bowl commercials 2 years ago where the guy was in the office with a bunch of monkeys and the line at the end was "sorry, I work with a bunch of monkeys."

    I see your point. If the monkey was representing Congress, then why not go with a donkey or elephant instead?

    Because a donkey or elephant wasn't shot the week before like a chimp was.

    I just think they were calling Congress a bunch of monkeys...that was my take on it, probably because that's how I feel about them too. As I've said before, I can see how someone could take it the wrong way and the paper probably should have used better judgment, but I think if you stop and think about it instead of jumping to conclusions, it's a real stretch to connect it to Obama.

    Until society can look past this kind of thing and not make a big deal out of it, we're never going to get beyond racism. And there are people like Sharpton and Jackson who make their living off of racism and don't want to see it go away, no matter how much they say they do. I'm to the point where I think the best thing to combat racism would be to ignore it. I know saying ignore the problem sounds bad, but finding racism where it is not only perpetuates it and acknowledging blatant racism only gives credence to it...if that makes sense.

    You're kidding right? You do realize it is "political satire" so a writer usually takes events that are in the news to work it into his piece. This was a joke that worked on a couple different levels.

    I understand what political satire is. Did Rupert Murdoch mention the relation of the cartoon to the chimp being shot in his apology? Or the cartoonist defense? I'd like to see some facts instead of assumptions.

    OnePimpTiger explained it best without having to insult someone else. I have a better understanding of the "political satire" thanks to him.

    Wouldn't calling it racist be an assumption?

    Those of you who believe it wasn't racist or the monkey wasn't representing Obama, then why was a monkey chosen instead of donkey or another animal?
    ]

    Because donkeys cant type, they have hooves.

    Also, a donkey is also called an "***", so by calling them donkeys people would then get upset because the artist was "cussing". Everyone wants to complain about something, ya know.

    SEE!!!!! It bleeped out what I typed automatically. My point proven.

    Where did I say it was racist? Would you mind pulling a specific quote where I said that the cartoon was racist instead of putting me up on a stool with a false claim?
