This if for opinion. I don't feel like running down stats every time there is a debate.

Numbers are to relied on anyways. Statistics can easily be skewed to whatever view you have.

I will take my personal experience over some poll put out by an organization that more than likely has an agenda everyday.

You must have missed the part where I said I was overestimating. And according to the numbers already posted, 67.5% are rearrested, thats crazy high. so for every thousand, 675 will be arrested again. whats the problem with takign the ones that are rearrested and sendign them somewhere for life?? life woudl be alot better thats for sure. When they get out they will know that they better now screw up again, or its life. I think that would be a pretty good deterrent.

being rearrested doesn't mean that you've been reconvicted. And how come you assume that everybody arrested is for a violent offense? Or do you think somebody who did 3 months in jail for writing bad checks, and then is rearrested for shoplifting should be sent to jail for life?

And since I believe most cops are on a power trip and most district/state/US attorneys are overzealous about putting people away...I would think they would probably agree with you...which is just crazy talk

Thank you for explaining how percents work, I was very confused. I always thought those half percents meant a little person was thrown into the mix. (Please note I have nothing against little people, I know they are a full person)

But I agree we should throw all those dirty pot smokers and drunk college kids in jail for life. (Sorry Red).

i have never said Iraq is a cakewalk or a vacation. I didn't mean he shouldn't have an opinion on jail. If he wants it to be tougher, fine. But to say that it's a vacation, or a hotel with nice furniture and comfortable beds, is quite wrong.

You want proof it isnt like that... show me proof it is... not from hardcore prisons... im talking the community jails you get put in for short sentances for non-violent crimes.... If it was tougher and a place people feared i truly think there would be less repeat offenders

Community jails do not have comfortable beds & nice furniture. They are not hotels in that they are cozy, but they do charge you to sleep there. They are only vacations for people who enjoy sausage parties, $15 phone calls, and barf for dinner. Community jails are often worse than state penitentaries or federal prisons, because they are more crammed and have less funding.

I don't think people reoffend because jail isn't tough. Nobody wants to go to jail...but of course there are exceptions to every rule.
