I'm normally a BV trader, been that way for years. I don't mind SV if it involves cards to rare to be priced or certain highend auto's, etc.
I agree, you find people everyday trying to use either to get the most. It's sad how much the hobby has changed over the years.

I look at it this way, people that trade by sv and ebay are looking to benefit themselves. If their was no guide all cards would sell at the rate of recycled paper. SV is just a way people can rip others off and they know it and ebay is not even close to fair. I bought a card for $145 and another sold for $350 so what is my card worth?? What the book says not what you or anyone else says.

Everyone needs to remember one thing, Without Beckett where would this hobby be? sell value is a garage sell price. and ebay i just what some poor joe smo that only had a few bucks to bid, or a crook looking to steal it from you. beckett does set some prices to high, but they sure retract them when a player isnt doing so hot. Beckett is way to go

Beckett is too slow to react anything. And they just put +10% for that "hot" player cards, or -10% for that injuried person's card. Too uniform to set the price. Beckett is way to go for anything lower than $50. Anything higher, the seller or the buyer should keep track from ebay and use spreadsheet to track history.

You can not expect to get over a buy price on ebay. And you should not pay more for an item, than what you buy it for as far as card for card Just depends if you like what you are getting better than what your giving.

If they give a range of $340-$700 for a Kobe Exquisite Auto Patch, they are going to be right. That is a pretty big range IMO that doesn't give much of an answer as to what the value is. I just don't understand what the point to using beckett is when you can get a much more accurate idea on the current value of the card by using ebay.

How is ebay "not fair". Ebay dictates the market value of a card based on the exact amounts that cards have sold. You can look through completed listings and find the closest match to your card and know the value of your card if you wanted to sell it right now.

This is exactly why BV fails in high end. Thanks for giving out an example. If you plan to buy or sell high end card, just track ebay for 1 or 2 weeks, that price will not be too off. And if you don't like that number, just wait couple months and track again.

+1. Since I've re-entered the hobby over the past 3 years, I don't trade. The SV/BV thing is too frustrating for me. I'd rather just buy the singles I want for my collections. It's just easier for me.
I suppose if I was trading, I'd do it by sell value for both parties. I mean, if I can buy a $100 card for $20, why trade away a $100 card of my own? I'll skip the Burger King lunches for a week and just buy the card.

Personally, I think if you want something you pay. I have traded down many a time, because I want a card. It depends on your perspective, I guess.
The cards are just paper in the long run and you can not take them with you. People should keep that in mind. This a hobby and nothing more.
I have had a few people think I am stupid, though. I have a good action for them. I block/ignore them and never deal with them, again. Use the block/ignore button and you do not have to deal with them.Last edited by drtom2005; 02-03-2010 at 10:48 PM.
