Kovalchuk would have put LA on the map, they have no superstar to talk about, whats all the hype for Jack Johnson, he really hasn't done alot, Doughty is miles ahead of him in everyway.

Troll post. Doughty is a superstar. Who is the only person younger to be nominated for a Norris??? Guess?? Oh yeah....some scrub named Bobby Orr.

Drew Doughty is your next superstar, just my 2 cents.

    Really now?!?!?

I would have to say most LA fans are blind, because you don't see the whole picture, Doughty has to play awhile more to be clasified a superstar, Lidstrom use to win the Norris every year and for the Wings he was no superstar, he was just a good player.

LOL! Uber troll post. 1st you call us all blind. Then you say Liddy isn't a superstar? He's a surefire 1st ballot HOFer. You don't get that unless you were a superstar.

No comment about your great D-MAN, JJ, average at best.

Obviously coming from someone who has never seen him play.

You can't compare,. LA was stacked compared to the Thrashers, they had 2 players Kovalchuk and Heatley, then they had one player, Kovalchuk.

We're stacked? Really? Usually a team who misses the playoffs for 8 straight years until this year isn't stacked. GJ though.

I love this chatter, its all one sided and everyone else is wrong, so figure.

    And again....troll post.

never said that. your logic made that one up....LOL

you said "Oh, yeah. Kovalchuk signs with the 3-time Stanley Cup winner...NJ Devils."

NJ winning 3 Cups (none since 2003/post lockout) has nothing to do with where Kovalchuk signed. it was all about $$$ - $100M.

No, YOU'RE logic made that one up.

Your post was trying to say he signed with a winner because the Devils have 3 cups and the Kings have 0.

By this logic, him signing with the leafs too would be signing with a winning team because they have cups and the Kings don't. Dave's post was right on.

    Leafs don't want him!

Can not tie that much up in 1 player. Even if you haven't won the cup since 67

I dunno, fellas...the Kings were a top-10 team in goals for, goals against and power-play...struggled a bit on the penalty kill, but that's a stat that can fluctuate from year to year.

If Schenn breaks camp (and I don't see why he shouldn't), that's a guy who will play his way into the top-six in no time at all. Perhaps there's still a deal for a top-six forward using some of the goaltending depth (who would you like to see the Kings keep, anyhow?) The defense is sound with Doughty and Johnson leading the way...though JJ still makes a few too many mistakes to be considered a stud top-2 guy, I think he's getting there.

Everyone talks about the importance of reloading with UFAs...I think the Kings should stick to making a few minor moves, lock up the key pieces of the existing team and work with what they have. A lot of teams would be happy to trade places with them.

good to see some intelligence and thought brought to this thread.

i really think that Schenn and Clifford and Hickey get their shots to make the team. if there's a great trade to be made then DL will make it. if not, he could go in with a solid lineup.

if there's a trade to be made for a scoring wing with a good contract using Quick as bait i would make that deal. it would be easy enough to sign someone like Turco to split time with Bernier until he's ready.

i'd love to see this lineup going into camp...DL could easily sign Frolov or Modin to play 2nd line wing.

    Smyth-Kopitar-Williams $16.5M
    Frolov/Modin-Schenn-Brown $10M
    Richardson-Handzus-Simmonds $6M
    Clifford/Westgarth-Stoll-Parse $6M
    Moller & Clune

    Doughty-Scuderi $7.5M
    Johnson-Hickey $3M
    Fransson-Greene $4M
    Drewiske & Harrold

    Bernier-Quick $2.5M

total - $55.5M. Still room to spare to pick up a piece or two at the deadline.

if Hickey isn't ready, then Drewiske steps in. if Clifford isn't ready then Clune or Moller can step in.

if Kaberle is available for Moller and a pick, make the deal. if not, go with what you have a see what becomes available at the deadline.
