It's not like PayPal wasn't charging fees before eBay bought them. Before eBay bought PayPal they were also almost as tightly integrated as they were after the buyout.
In addition, just because eBay owns PayPal doesn't mean PayPal is the same business. Because PayPal is it's own business they need to make money on their own, just because eBay charges fees doesn't mean that PayPal no longer needs to.
Your point in an earlier post about there being no need for a transaction fee of $.30 for a $200 transaction is unfortunately incorrect. After doing a quick google search for small business credit card acceptance fees I found that they're all pretty much the same as PayPal. To accept credit cards directly, without PayPal, you'd have to pay anywhere between $.20 and $.35 a transaction, plus a percentage around 2%, which is less than PayPal, but to accept credit cards yourself you also have to pay all sorts of setup fees, and monthly support/statement fees, let alone the time and investment to manage and maintain your own payment system. So huzzah for PayPal letting an individual or organization accept credit cards at basically the same rate without any of the hassle.
I'm not saying I like paying fees any more than the next guy, but the fact that there are fees does make sense.
There are ways around the PayPal search results prominence. For instance I just bought a card from a guy who had PayPal listed as his preferred payment method, but when the auction ended he told me that he only accepted money orders. Either way I don't care too much and he was able to be listed with all the other auctions accepting PayPal.

I can't buy from Donruss unless i take a few cases at a time. As for UD they have it set that everything for canada goes thru a wholesale distributor in toronto. Heres an example 2004 SPA football, wholesale cost of roughly $137.50usd. Selling on ebay between $130-165. So if you get lucky and sell at the high of 165 minus all the fees you can make about $15. Average price of last 10 boxes is $149.78. After fees do i make money?
I never said I get crapped on by the buying public, I said I will lose out on bidders if I don't accept paypal. Big difference there. As for how I pay, 9 times out of 10 i offer the choice to the seller. Plus some of the seller do so little in sales they have a free paypal account.

Wow am I not typing in english now???? I never said paypal didn't charge fees before ebay bought them out. I accept the 2.9% on all sales i don't like it though. I don't need paypal to accept credits cards for me since i'm already set up for that. But a regular sale of mr x who has $300 dollars in his paypal account buys an item and pays with that $300 should not need a $0.30 transaction fee. Whats next a fee to pay by cash at a store?
As for the ways around the paypal search, i wouldn't do that. That is really a dishonest thing for a seller to do and technically they would have to accept a paypal payment. But i see way too many dishonest sellers on ebay espacially when it comes to vintage cards but thats another post in itself lol.

No your English is fine. I guess I just misunderstood this paragraph:
"Mall X" buys out mastercard. Then they tell all their stores you can take mastercard payments but we will add an extra transaction fee. So some stores say yes and some say no. The ones that say yes get prime locations within the mall (front door, own entrance, more promotion) and those that say no get stuck in the lower traffic areas of the mall. Would that be ethical for a mall to do?
In the above paragraph I though you were comparing the Mall to eBay and Mastercard to PayPal. Guess I was wrong.
And you're right, PayPal payments from account to account should be fee free, unfortunately that's not the case.
No doubt there are plenty of dishonest sellers on eBay probably in the same percentages that there are dishonest sellers in retail, but I didn't find the fact that my seller no longer accepted PayPal dishonest. Maybe he has a personal account and had already reached his monthly limit. He had strong feedback, mid 400s I think, so I have no worries about getting the item. As far as I'm concerned if a seller/buyer has strong feedback I'll pretty much use any payment process they request.

All in all i guess its just a big catch 22. The supply on ebay has lowered demand. Shrinking demand has lowered sale prices. Lower sale prices means i will pay less when a guy wants to sell me cards at a show. Me offering lower prices to people means more guys trying to sell their cards on ebay instead. And back to square one again.
So sales keep going down and fees keep going up. Eventually something will have to give.
Thats kinda funny in itself there. I will be at a show and have all my cards priced at book in a case that might say 50% off. A guy will come up and say i have these cards that i don't want how much will you give me. I'll look and maybe its $100 bv and i offer $15 if its crap, then the guy freaks and thinks i'm trying to rip him off lol.
Or my fav is the ones that have a card booked at $50 and come to me and ask if i will buy it for $50.

That is pretty funny, I think most collectors, especially younger kids (I know I did when I was younger) feel their cards are really worth the book value or more and are afraid/hurt to discover the real world prices. So when you said you'd only pay $15 I'm sure it broke his heart.

I' don't buy too much on ebay but I do notice that people list what the card isn't so they will come up with someone searches for the card that their's is not. It's like when that grilled cheese sandwich with the virgin mary was on and getting national TV coverage. people had all kinds of items that said not grilled cheese virgin mary just because they knew millions of people would be searching for grilled cheese. I would never do that on my auctions. I'd be afraid that someone would avoid mine just because I tried to trick them. Plus the chances of someone clicking and bidding on someone that says spcifically that it isn't what they are looking for would be about 0%.

Lately, though, I have notice some Roethlisberger Cards selling on Ebay for book value. A few months back, I sold a Pro Sigs Roethlisberger # 48/349 for 39.00 w/ 2.00 shipping when the book then was $40.00, so if a guy is hot (like he was) their cards can command book...
