Dont get me wrong - not saying he sucks or anything - far from it, just saying Kopitar has done more in the same time frame....and that West coast players dont get as much love in the Hobby as East coast/Canadian teams do...

    +100

If Marcel Dionne, Luc Robitaille or Rob Blake had spent the bulk of their careers with the Toronto Maple Leafs, their cards would be worth three or four times what they are now.

What I can't understand with Beckett is the BV they give to parallel.

    Today, I tried to trade for a 2007-08 UD Artifacts Larry Robinson /100. BV = 20 $.
    On my desk, I have a 2009-10 UD Artifacts Larry Robinson /25. BV = 8 $.
    How can that be???

I can go on and on and on. Some years parallels numbered at 100 "worth" gold. Same set, same player, same print number, different year... parallel BV is near nothing.

Another example. First ITG John Tavares base card books at 15 $. First ITG Steven Stamkos base card books at 10 $. First Taylor Hall ITG base card books at... 1.25 $. And this is the only card of the three that have been issued in the Update serie (so, it is the most rare of the lot).

You can do better than that Beckett...
    I collect the following:
    - Vintage (Stars and RC)
    - 2010-11 ITG Decades (Auto, GU, bases)
    - Stars from the 1980s (in modern sets)
    - Montreal Canadians Legends (bases, inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)
    - Montreal Canadiens actual players (inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)

I've learned that message boards and completed listings on eBay are the real price guides and thats why I no longer subscribe to Beckett.

As far as the Staal Kopi battle...LOL IMO Pens fans are more rabid collectors than "most" kings collectors....No disrespect Chris and Barrie...LOL

I have to agree in the Staal vs Kopitar debate, Staal has too many upper hands. Kopitar plays for a team that hasn't done much in forever, and when people DO talk about the Kings nowadays, it's either about the rookies or because someone brought up Wayne Gretzky. Staal plays in a better hockey area, on a team where he can get recognition both on his own and on the coattails of people around him, and he has a pedigree that Kopitar lacks, both in the Staal name and his country of origin.

As for the OPG - Beckett artificially manipulating prices so they can retail the cards at higher cost sounds a little fishy, but would not be wholly unsurprising. The biggest problem with the OPG, and I've said this here before, is that the original intention of the OPG was for people to be able to report the prices paid for cards, there by keeping the book value current. However, the mentality of the community is to pay less than low book for a card. Now if you did that and reported it, the book value of your card would drop to match... thereby decreasing the "value" of your purchase and your card as YOU tried to sell or trade it. How many of you would be willing to report the price you paid for something, particularly if you got a good deal, knowing that the average price of your card would drop from $50 to $35 when you clicked submit?

when Kopitar helps the kings earn a cup then im sure you'll have plenty of bandwagoners scrambling for his rookies....enjoy the relatively low prices while they last

Twitter: @HeroesofCrease See FanaticofTKD's Items on eBay Instagram:

Pretty much any of Irbe's memorabilia go far higher than BV. One of the supposedly $20.00 All-star jerseys of Irbe sold for $110.00, just over a year ago.

Not to mention, Stamkos seems to be selling at or above BV now.

The tough part is explaining to traders that sometimes cards they want go far above, or far below BV.

i know that staal is in pittsburgh so teaming with crosby - (card value up) and kopitar plays in la (so beckett doesn't give a damn )

id like to start another debate

benoit pouliot (montreal) vs guillaume latendresse (minnesota)

when they both star in 06-07 , latendresse was listed higher than pouliot (even if pouliot was more pushed than latendresse , due to his chl rookie award) , but not that pouliot is in montreal i wouldn't be surprised that his value goes the same that latendresse if not even higher

    the moral is :
you play in a original six or pittsburgh or washington : card value up
you play elsewhere : we dont give a damn
