With eBay, I find that the demand varies on an item month to month. Some cards might be hot and will get more at times, and then cool off when no one is looking for them...
ie.: bought two different 2008-09 SPGU AF triple jersey/patch #/10 of Markov. One month, it was 40.00 (either crazy bidders or schilling), and the next month, I got a similar one for only 8.00.
If it is eBay purchasing of a specific card, I take the averages of all sales (eliminating the highest and lowest values from the calculation) and shipping fees into the mix.
Also in the case of a very low print run (#/15 or less), the first auction is usually the highest price since the sale on a similar card tends to taper out slightly or drastically...
ie.: 2008-09 UD Black Cold War Canada vs Russia 12 swatch. First one went for around 560.00, while subsequent ones sold for 400-500 as more time passed by....

Just found that the same 'infection' exists in the 2006 UD Rookie Materials subset. They doubled all of the card values except for Malkin and Staal. Great job Beckett in helping your BV credibility...

That would be funny, but reality check says that isn't happening.
Checked some recent auctions for the so-called $80.00 Phaneuf Rookie Threads:
7.99 + 5.01 shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/05-06-Upper-Deck...item43a2a6a3f6
9.28 + 3.00 shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/DION-PHANEUF-05-...item5195ef0bc5
and one failed to sell at $8.99
This shows that the Phaneuf Rookie Threads is following the staple of the old price of a low $12.00 (selling), and high $30.00 (trading)
When many cards first come out using a GU-piece for an example. The low was the crappy white piece and the high was the best mutli-coloured piece.
There was one Phaneuf Rookie Threads that sold for $30.00, however this was rare dual-coloured variety, which would follow the better higher-quality GU-piece in this case.
btw, I found a couple Perezhogin Rookie Threads that both failed to sell, even one of them at 99 cents.

Possibly the only Rookie Threads with a possible price increase is Zach Parise. However, this is the Beckett BV for is much higher than this.
one BIN for $15.00...sold (white jersey)
one started at $8.99...no sale
one sold for $12.50 (unusual blue jersey so not normal item)
one started at $17.99...no sale (white+red jersey)
I tend to find BIN selling prices to be higher than a normal auction price would be for the same item in a majority of cases.
btw, my article was printed on this subject.
