Just below that, if you look really carefully, you can see me offering a Jamie Rivers autograph and some Topps Stadium Club.

What's an Ovechkin auto worth in general, a couple hundred bucks? Even if there was an auto on this card, that'd be a drop in the bucket compared to the total purchase price.
None of that other junk that hobbyists go gaga over would make any difference in the 'perceived' value of this card.

That is beacuse this is THE Ovechkin card. He has a plethora of auto, jerseys, and patches; multiple shields and Property Of...s; and, for the gmaer argument, 8 or so game-used jerseys per year. There is however only ONE Cup RC 1/1. This is from the creme-de-la-creme of hockey products. The only Ovy card I could possibly see being worth more is his Ultimate Auto Shield RC.
FYI, I bowed out of the bidding at $7000.

I see what you mean, however seeing as how this will easily top 10,000$ and with that closer 15,000$ (give or take) it just seems a touch crazy. Imagine what 15,000$ could buy. If i were to win this I would personally fly/drive down to pick up the card...in an armored truck...
just my 0.02$

Some people want to bust 30 tins of The Cup, others want this card. To each there own.
And to those who says its only a piece of cardboard, no. It's a hobby, a passion, and to some, an obsession. There are more than enough people in the hobby to whom $15,000 is more than manageable.

I agree, its not just cardboard, it is a very, very amazing and exciting hobby that many including myself have had pleasure to enjoy.
I guess your right, instead of going out and blowing it on an expensive car or trips this could be his avenue to spend it. Hey im not saying i wouldnt also if I had 15,000 to spend.

I always like to think of it as collecting pieces of art. Maybe less so these days (see thread about the 90s)...

Very well said. When it's all said and done for Ovy's career he will--barring injury--be a sure-fire first ballot HOF'er. He may hold a few NHL records by the time he's done. The person that owns the best piece imaginable in the collection will have a fantastic item connected with the player and his greatness.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
