Tough loss yesterday, Phil Coke was just brutal out of the bullpen and that proved to be the difference last night. Jacob Turner made his major league debut in a spot start and was REALLY impressive. Had all 3 pitches working well, showed great confidence in tough spots. He does however need to work on holding runners on, but he will improve no doubt.
He went 5 1/3 3 hits given up 2 runs allowed (Coke let the 2nd run score) and had 6 Ks. He was sent down to Toledo (a promotion from Erie) after the game to make room for Doug Fister/David Pauley who were aquired in a trade earlier in the day!
Today is Verlander vs Weaver, argueably the best pitching matchup you'll see this season.Hidden Content

Tigers get Fister and Pauley from the Mariners for Casper Wells, Fransisco Martinez, Charlie Furbush, and a PTBNL

...and the Indians got a walk-off from, who else, Mattie LaPorta!
It was just a sucky Indians day for me yesterday. Yeah, they won, but now I have to give some credit to LaPorta. Then they mortgage the future for Ubaldo Jimenez...trade the OC (Orlando Cabrera) for a mediocre outfielder...and are trying to acquire Ryan Ludwick. I hope Chris Antonetti knows what he's doing.

I called that LaPorta walkoff..It'll help him in the MVP race!
Indians tried to "one up" the Tigers, but failed because it didn't help their team.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Ubaldo Jimenez fan...but I wouldn't have given up White AND Pomz; one or the other. Here's to hoping they both pull a Strasburg...White already has an injury history.
The problem is, the Indians can't hit! They got their first earned run since Wednesday last night...gave up more than three runs once. Pitching wasn't their problem. I would be perfectly happy if they gave up that package for James Shields AND BJ Upton. But not for Ubaldo.

Rockies wanted Jacob Turner, Max Scherzer or Rick Porcello and Brennan Boesch from the Tigers to get Ubaldo, obviously, i'm thrilled they didn't get him. To inconsistent, velocity is down, big red flag.

Well that was a crazy game, an almost no-hitter, and an ejected pitcher.
Verlander went 7 2/3rds with a no hitter before it was broken up. He had 9Ks, 1 hit in 8 innings pitched.
Weaver gave up a 2 run shot to Ordonez, then a solo shot in the 7th to Guillen, Guillen "showed up" Weaver who didn't like it, so the next pitch he tried to bean Alex Avila in the head and was ejected.
Valverde comes in to get his 28th save in 28 chances, and Verlander gets his 15th victory on the season.
Off day tommorow, then a 3 game home series against Texas.

Wait, you dont think Guillen "showed up" Weaver? That was pretty blatant. I'm not saying Weaver isn't a tool, but really? Guillen should know his actions were going to be punished.

I said Guillen showed him up.....
However, the way Weaver was acting he deserved it, and deserves to be suspended because he threw at someones head on purpose right after..

ahh, you put it in quotes so I thought you were doubting that.
And yea Weaver shouldn't have thrown at Avila's head, but thankfully it really wasn't anywhere near him. Only the statue known as Mike Piazza would've gotten hit there, hell, he would've jumped to get hit by it lol.
Weaver has always been an idiot, but what Guillen did was really uncalled for. He hasn't had a big hit in what like 5 years? Lol, act like you've done something before.
With that being said, Verlander has been insane. I really want to see a CC/Verlander matchup again. Opening day was cool, but the bullpens blew it for both of them. (Edit- blew it for CC, Verlander gave up the 3 run hr, and then pitched lights out lol)
I wanted to know your thoughts on Aybar bunting in the 8th? My first reaction was that it was kind of busch league...but then I realized that they are trying to come back...its not like it was a 10-0 game. What do you think?
