This year it sure is. Trilogy had similar bad value, but at least better looking cards, AND the fantastic ice scripts which must be one of the best auto-sets of all time (pick any trilogy year). Like I said in anothert thread, SPGU could be saved and freshed up if they took the title literary and instead did gameused pucks, sticks, fightstraps, patches etc, and really make a unique brand of it. If nothing else that would be fun. And for a $180 brand btw, you shouldn't get away with such sloppy ugly design, it's pure lazy.

for 180$ design should be like it was in premier or black, cards looked really nice and expensive and had that supreme look on them. This is just cheap looking design with high price and hey since we are upper deck people are gonna buy it no matter if we designed all cards black or white...

They shouldn't get away with it, but they do cause peopole buy, even I buy, since there's nothing else higher end out there right now. UD is very smart releasing spgu first before spa and spx (and before some of panini's nicer ones upcoming too), I seriously think they would have had huge selling problems with spgu this year otherwise, if it had been released after those brands.

It's something like this that make me lose even more respect for UD, and make me believe they don't care a dime about collectors.

SPGU has always been a high risk/high reward product. This is a product that focuses on jerseys and patches, with some 1/1's to sprinkle in here and there.

However, it can be said that any product of $10/pack or more can be at varying degrees is high risk. The Cup is no different either. I personally rarely purchase more than one pack of this product a year since I know the odds are bad to begin with.

There is a difference. Even with bad luck, and yes I think at least last year's the Cup was hugely overrated and not very good, the Cup got quality. It oozes quality, even the basecards. Just like Black, opc premier, and Dominion do. SPGU is a cheap brand but pretends to be expensive. It focuses on jerseys, you're not even guaranteed a patch in each box. But nevermind, screw the values, there's many higgrisk products out there, too many. I think mortuus means it looks and feels like trash, a $180 products should at least give you a feeling of quality even if you walk away with poor value.

in terms of re-sell value its not very good, but to be honest...if you are getting boxes to sell the cards you are better off not buying anything lol i like the look of them, and the cheap resale prices are nice for me...and to call it a flop you should probly see how many boxes were sold, i don't know if UD releases that information
Please check my inventory before my photobucket!!! It's more up to date!!!

There we go again. Some of us ain't rich, all I ever demand is decent value back, so I can continue to buy boxes and not get ruined. If it were up to me, I would remove all these mega casehits and what not, and even everything out so all boxes on average gave your box money back, not more, not any profit making, only your money back, so you can buy more boxes if you *want to*. You know what it turns into then? All about the design and collecting, and these lottery moneygrabbing stuff disappears. But that's just me, the majority probably wants the chance of a superpull

I'm not dissing spgu on value though, spgu has always been like that, it's a highrisk product, we all know it. It's just that this year I see complain everywhere on every forum about the design which seems horrible, boring, ugly.

I really wish they would bring back Black. That is one of the most gorgeous designed sets. As much as I like some of the game used product in SPGU, to me, the design is simply horrendous. Especially for a $180 product. It's as if they thought they could trick people with all the game used stuff and not pay ANY attention to design.

In all honesty I don't see the hype in this product. What cards stand out? If you don't get a major hit, you are going to feel like you pooped your pants. The only people that come out happy at all are those that buy cases, but with any product after you buy a case, you should get something nice. Crap rookies, crap design, crap everything. Kill this product and bring back Trilogy. Thank you.
