I've broken multiple cases of UD1, UD2, Black Diamond, Certified, Limited, Crown Royale and SPGU this year... the ONLY ones that returned my $$ and made a profit were UD1, UD2 and Black Diamond. SPGU is still in progress but looks like it'll return 80% of my money with me keeping some hits.
The 3 Panini products returned ~ 50% of my money, that's while selling off the hits.
That said I do NOT do this to make $$, just to enhance my Oilers PC. It's a shame sometimes though when you have to sell of a 'hit' PC item because it's the only way to recoup some of the product costs.

All I can say is you're extremely lucky with your spgu then, and I mean extremely. A lot only get 10-20$ of their boxes, and the majority tops $50. You have to look at this objectively and look at tons of breaks and then make an judgement. I did that in an article few years back here for Scf and the result was very clear: Buy lowend or very highend. The mid highend stuff like spgu, spa, ultimate, limited etc etc is extreme highrisk, and for most of us just wasted money. Buying cases of it gets you the good hits but not good money back either (considering the rest of your case is trash). Actually, mid highend often is a lower end product in disguise pretend to be very highend, thus fooling us all.
That's not to say the lowend get you a profit, perhaps if you take the time to list every little insert, basecard, rookie etc, but even then on average, no, doubt it.
Of the three companies now, UD seem worst. ITG has got some very good pay-off stuff in Enforcers and Captain c. May not look like it at first look but start to check and even so-so average breaks quite easy give you 50% back and you can still keep the base or one hit. Some of Panini is also stable.

I think we all feel this year's spgu is the worst ever. Hit wise it's been equally bad before, but what makes it worse is the look, and the feeling. Even if you pull a Crosby inked sweater which I saw somebody do here now, my first thought was "well good for the guy but the card looks horrible, like it's made by a highschool student"
I haven't seen one single good looking card from this product this year, with the possible exception of a Ranford pad, but it was thanks to the pad itself.
