Titanium - The Surprise Hit of the Spring?
Since Titanium went live earlier this week, the Box Breaks section has been filled with some loaded breaks and amazing memorabilia cards. When you compare the reaction of members when they see the product live to some responses from the product preview thread it is clear that Panini has really turned some heads and changed some opinions with this release.
Is it safe to say that Titanium has turned into the surprise hit of the spring?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

As I'm going more and more onto this hobby, this kind of question interest me.
A new set is always dependable on positive and negative criticisim. Most of the time, these critics are coming from persons who have a natural tendencie to be against that type of product.
For me, by exemple, I believe that at some point some cards are simply too expensives for what they really worth. For example, a rather unknown rookie from the cup, even with a great patch and great signing, is not supposed to be at the same value (say 70-80 $) that a Maurice Richard piece of jersey. So from that standpoint (mine only) I'll say that the cup is not worth the money, but I'm forgetting that others factors are here too to contribute to the selling price range of the final product.
As for Titanium, I have to say that we should not have a pre-thinking when judging a new set. I checked Titanium, I opened some, I got a bit lucky, yes, but it was fun and the cards are bringing me happiness. I'm always surprised to see how many persons are here to digest all these sets year after year, and to see the price stand firm.

I still don't see what the hype is about....it's another product........it has its goods and its bads. I hate sticker autos. I especially hate 1/1 sticker autos. I don't like the neon colours used on the new wave autos. I hate the cartoon jersey with gu'd on them. But, who cares? If some people like it, good on them. Everybody has wants/needs in a product....nice to see so many people enjoying it. I still haven't found what I'm looking for this year...with the exception of the mythology patches from Crown Royale.

I agree that I don't know what the 'hype' is all about...
As was said above, there is good, bad, and in-between. Hype when a product is new is easy, especially when there's not a lot of 'new' products competing for collector dollars. Everything UD is delayed (I read end of this month for SPA), so there are a lot of collectors with money burning a hole in their pockets. Titanium fills a void, but I can't really say that equates to a 'hit'.
I think the answer to your question will come in early July when collectors are deciding between SPA, Rookie Anthology, and an 'old' box of Titanium. If Titanium breaks are still happening and the sticker autos are still showing strong sales, then we can call it a 'hit'.

I love it, Panini hit a home run in my opinion.
Several of the breaks I have seen posted have amazing patches and primes, the rookies are a huge hit, design is great (IMO), and its reasonably priced (IMO) and the hit per pack is always nice.
Definitely my favorite release of the year to date just edging out BTP.
Great job Panini, great release.

Not a big panini fan really. and sticker autos is the main thing what would keep me out from it anyway, not very big secondary market value as stickers is the last thing we need out there more of them...

from what i've seen, it's definitely a hit. some of the patches i've seen are ridiculous, and the price for a box is pretty damn good, especially since Panini sometimes starts off with a high price. i've never bought a box over $75 but might have to change that with Titanium

Thing Panini seems to have right about this set, that I don't think anyone really predicted, is value. For ~100 bucks, you seem to "make" a decent amount back on it on average - which is MUCH better than most SPGU (its UD comparison, right) boxes.

I'm pleasently suprised. The only Panini release I've liked before is Dominion, but I plan on buying a box or 2 of Titanium.
I agree, after a few months and SPA being out, if the Titaniums still catch good prices atthe feeBay, it will surely be "known" as a good product.#1: Barrasso
Others: Lemieux, Penguins cards that look good to me
Need Barrasso ITG Used Nameplates and Crosby NT Base Silver, Gold, Emerald
