I do that for most of my cards (I mean start with the lowest you'd sell lol) with a few exceptions starting at 0.99$, I was more talking about the principle, which is IMO another ridiculous thing on Ebay
Another thing, I calculated final value fees myself
4 cards went in auction to the same buyer for a total of 167.98$ USD. All the final value fees total 21.04$... correct me if I'm wrong but it's ~12.5 % (doesn't account the 7.65$ USD Paypal comission), so with Paypal, it's a WHOOPING 17%
And me naively I thought I was paying like 12-14% in fees... I'm a top rated seller, did I already get the discount or it will come down later? God, I hope so lol
Ok now, I looked at an item that sold 4.99$ USD, 0.86$ in final value fees, that's freaking 17.23%
Paypal charged another 0.52$ so combined it's 27.65%!!! lmao
So basically, if you paid anything more than 3.61$ for the item, you start LOSING money (just an example here)
Ok kinda makes me undertand why so many sellers are trying to overcharge on shipping.
I understand the principle, and of course they "deserve" a commission but why do they need to charge that much? All they do is give us a website to list items... I know they have charges (like their extremly costly customer service in India) but if they get at least 10% on every sale, they must make money like water. Are they subject to any kind of market regulaton?
I understand why I read so many people saying they don't make money selling on Ebay
Just a rant...Last edited by Xspyrit; 05-12-2020 at 04:12 PM.

Here a ebayer you might want to avoid:
ebay names: tubblebubbas, bluebearsfan, braruppe0
eBay auction claims to ship USPS first class package, then ships in PWE (not package). Misleadingly said would charge max of $4 for shipping then said it was a max per card, no combined shipping. Bought 4 cards and was charged $15.20 for a PWE delivery.
here is a few scans of the goodies:

15.20 for 4 pwe priceless.
p.s. The biggest thing he post on SCF but I do not know his practice of shipping on the site just on ebay. If you want his user name on SCF lmk and I will share it.

Yeah sellers who abuse on shipping are annoying too. Had a similar experience lately with frank14_hockey
I had 18 cards for a total of 57$ CAD, 4 cards were thicker than normal (Fleer Showcase JSY AU RC) but the rest was either thin cards or regular jersey thickness cards. It was said in the description how he charged for combined shipping but I still bid because some items I wanted/needed were selling super low (which is usually explained by stupid shipping charges).
So after I was charged 30$ for shipping, I asked him why it was so expensive and that I usually would never pay that much for such a small order. Also told him that I would be able to send these 18 cards for 4.44$ + taxes anywhere in Canada. He told me that he lives in a rural area and that he has problems with the post lady who doesn't let him send cards using bubble mailers.
I received my order : 5 bubble mailers with a 1.94$ stamp... total 9.70$ + taxes
I understand that top loaders, bubble mailers and team bags cost a bit but between let's say 15$ of shipping expenses and 30$ charged, there's a BIG difference. lol I was expecting a 1 day delivery with tracking at that price and based on the story he told me.
I am still wondering if I should leave neutral or negative feedback. I mean, I wouldn't if he DIDN'T FLAT OUT LIED TO ME.
I pay 15-30$ USD in shipping for orders from the States on a regular basis, but I understand because they have REAL expensive shipping costs (12.25$ or 20.75$ on the label most of the time). but in this case, it is SHIPPING ABUSE.

Xavier,
In theory your shipping charge as a percentage is a lot less than $15.20 when the user only paid $2.20 for the 4 stamps in a pwe. I mean that almost a 700 percent mark up on the true shipping charge while yours is in the ballpark of 300 percent. Still crazy imo and I think you have every right to leave a appropriate feedback as he did not combine shipping fairly and it a rating. I wish I could handpick these ebayers and charge them the same shipping cost they charge others and see how they react when they get slapped with crazy amounts. I love to hear their reaction to it.

haha yeah totally. Personally, I have never tried to make any money on shipping because that is not the goal, I try to break even and that's it.
Like I said, I wouldn't have made a big deal about it IF the seller didn't flat out lied to me and invented a story to justify those charges...

What are you talking about exactly his first listing of cards being VG to excellent or something else like all the FREE Shipping as you know that a big ole PWE.
LMK what your referring to.

Yes I am talking about the free shipping to the US on pretty much every listing, which are not sought after products I suppose and that is why it sells for very cheap
My question : why is the seller losing A LOT of money doing this? I mean, I sold quite more than usual since the covid and you should see my Ebay invoice and credit card expenses at Canada Post...
He sold 922 listings in the last 3 months (if I'm not mistaken). Even if he uses PWE, he's basically losing money on every listing once he paid for stamps, postage materials, Ebay and Paypal fees.
At least he has no additional Ebay fees on shipping!!!
I'm not sure what I am missing here

He is making money as it all sold for 1.50 or more. Remember he might have these all listed as free listings as well which would only help his profit margin and allow him to move them for cheap.
