So owning a gun for personal defense is a fear based move...what is looking both ways before you cross the road if not a move based on the fear of getting hit?
Nobody said that owning a gun changes your chances of getting robbed. That is an ignorant concept. I guarantee you that it decreases your chances that you will have to watch your family be victimized by strangers when it is in your hand.
Depends on what you call "readily accessible". I have a handgun readily accessible, but that doesn't mean my kids can just casually stroll by and pick it up. They have these awesome new gun safes out that use a fingerprint scanner. I can have my handgun in-hand in seconds, but my kids can't touch it. Best part is that my kids have been raised around firearms and allowed to shoot, so they respect the power and potential danger of a gun and they understand that they have boundaries.
You were raised in a house where you had expectations and consequences. The problem with people who constantly yap about guns around kids being unsafe are the ones who have zero parenting skills and can't make their kid do something as simple as go to bed on time much less trust them to leave the firearms alone. They have that "head in the sand" mentality. Rather than be a responsible parent they try to keep their kid away from guns and indoctrinate them into the "guns are bad!" mentality in hopes that their kid will be so fearful of guns that they avoid them forever. These are the kids that kill themselves and others the first time they see a gun without parental supervision around.Last edited by duane1969; 07-07-2014 at 11:28 PM.

I explained the difference between looking both ways and owning a small cannon. If you'd like to read my posts for a change, this time without placing your own warped and almost sick world views on me, it's all in there.
You just need to, you know, read BEFORE responding. It would really help a lot.

You... you actually believe this?
Because if you do, you need to seek help. I'm not being funny or mean, but if you actually believe any of this garbage it will make YOU miserable in the end and your mental health is in question. Hopefully you are just trolling for a reaction. I hope for your case you are. If not, get help and do it for you.

A small cannon ROFL now I get it. You really are one of those people that knows jack squat about guns.
And I know you "explained" your illogical perspective. I just don't buy into your refeer-addled way of thinking. Owning a gun for personal safety is simply trying to ensure you suffer no more than necessary if someone tries to hurt you or your family. Looking both ways is simply trying to ensure you suffer no more than necessary while crossing the road. It is the same basic concept. An action prior to a potential catastrophe with intention of avoiding that catastrophe.

You know, I would normally whole-heartedly agree with you, but I have seen some things that are just freaking odd about Sandy Hook. Did you see the video of Robbie Parker the day after his daughter was killed? The guy is laughing and chuckling with people when he thinks the camera isn't on his, then he goes into this breathing thing before becoming teary-eyed and talking in a broken voice. It looks very "rehearsed" and actor-like...like he is getting into character. Or the school nurse who said that the shooter was the son of the kindergarten teacher when he wasn't and Lanza's mother had never worked there. Or the principal telling a newspaper that she saw a masked gunman enter and start shooting, yet she was killed in the shooting and couldn't have given an interview.
I always take this hoax stuff with a grain of salt, but there is some freaky stuff surrounding the Sandy Hook shooting. I am still trying to figure out how Lanza, who supposedly weighed just 120 pounds, made an assault on the school while wearing body armor, carrying an assault rifle, with several handguns tucked into his clothes, with numerous clips including the reported 150 rounds he fired in the shooting...he was carrying more than his body weight in weapons, ammo and body armor all while supposedly killing 26 people in just over 4 minutes, all with tactical precision that everyone agrees he had no training for...and all of this done by a guy who supposedly went through a box of tissues per day because he couldn't even stand to touch a doorknob with his bare hands. It is hard to conceive.
Or how about the United Way Sandy Hook donation page being created on December 11, 2012...the day before the shooting?...
Like I said, I take this stuff with a grain of salt, but there is some really unbelievably weird stuff here.

This is why both the left and the right are full of it. The right teaches their kids about firearms, how to respect them and never to touch one without supervision. However they stick their head in the sand when it comes to educating their kids about sex. The left generally are for sex ed and believe in teaching their kids about the consequenses of having it. They then turn around and stick their heads in the sand when it comes to firearms and believe that once the second amendment is repealed all firearms will magically disappear and we will live in a society free of crime and violence. Extremism on both sides is why we will continue to get nowhere fast.

You are misrepresenting the argument. There's no serious movement in this country to "repeal the second amendment" there is no group that says "firearms will magically disappear and crime & violence will go away" if the second amendment is repealed. Nobody is coming to get your guns. Nobody. Nobody has ever even talked in a serious way about coming to get your guns. That position is not a "side" in the gun control debate. Creating a false 'extreme' and then arguing against it is kind of pointless.
