when it comes to loved one i could care less about debt or money,
and that is one reason why death with dignity should be a law in every state. costs of meds, treatments, and other health related bills will disable any family financially.
so being loyal, for some, would be not to drain them financially because you want to live in near death for a few more months.

Perhaps a refresher course in psyche 101 is in order, but being the realist that I am I see the procedure is called "assisted suicide". Depression is a disease of the mind which can affect one's judgment, one such act that can occur is-suicide. I hope she changes her mind, all is not lost. I hope someone can touch her and show her that life is beautiful no matter what stage it is in. I hope that love of money truly isn't a reason one would consider. I think a culture that glorifies death should not feign shock when our children murder each other. Is Robin Williams, may he rest in peace, a martyr for this culture of death? Is he the example? Why not celebrate life, this culture ought to celebrate life again.

I can respect your opinion but do not fully agree with it.
I hope someone can touch her and show her that life is beautiful no matter what stage it is in. I hope that love of money truly isn't a reason one would consider.
I hope she makes the best educated decision she can for her and hers. I also hope she is not mislabeled (as many are) and thought of as "out of her mind" and suicidal. Most of these people are no more suicidal than you or I, and they and their family are in a situation we could only imagine and still fall short. What if that was one of our spouses or mothers, rapidly decaying into death on a long and brutally painful path? I know there is a fine line between mercy and holding on, but without being in that place it would be unfair of me to label them as anything other than a human being with a terminal illness who should have choices.

Agreed. So we're discussing "death with dignity"?? I can't help but ask the question at the root of this entire premise...what is so shameful or undignified about fighting for your life? So if you are a fighter and get sick and weak, and you're in a hospital and require help and treatment...you're all of a sudden undignified, this is a huge oxy moron! The undignified in this situation is the person checking out early under the guise of sparing others pain...this is a very selfish act, and although I respect others viewpoints on this, there is no dignity in ending your life early (IMO).

Let's remember how social conservatism feels about this issue.
Because even though conservatives are supposedly "Small government" (The biggest joke and hypocrisy ever!) they LOVE having government taking control over their bodies.
Whether it's telling women they can't get abortions, or telling people they can't smoke a plant that is less harmful than tobacco, or telling people they can't get married because....eww, a boy kissing a boy is so yucky! and of course telling people to live no matter what, no matter how much pain and torture they have to go through.
Social Conservatism is about control not freedom.
So when you listen to a heartbreaking story like this....remember that it's conservative politicians responsible for making sure that most states BAN euthanasia and letting terminally ill patients die when they want to instead of suffering and eventually dying in such a shameful manner.
Social conservatism is on par with YE creationism in my bottom of the barrel critiques of this nation.Last edited by JustAlex; 10-09-2014 at 01:01 AM.

Just curious is there anything that you don't put a political spin on? I think the Liberals were responsible for Lebron leaving Miami and the Republicans nixed the Chris Paul to the Lakers deal.

and others would say it is selfish to try to squeeze out every minute in those situations, only concerned with your life is selfish.

Yes, both easily argued being selfish but my true point was about dignity, I think it is a shame to imply that if you die in a hospital bed because you're sick and weak but you fought for your life that it is somehow undignified. Killing yourself early, even if one is terminal, is truly undignified IN MY OPINION. Doctors are human and they are wrong all the time!
With respect to squeezing out minutes, I think it is a misnomer to claim that that is the point of the sick person, they decided days, months, or years before that to fight so that is what they do knowing they can't control how long they stay sick or eventually get well. It's a testimony to the character of the person not so much "squeezing out minutes". I also suppose that this law in Oregon is not taken lightly, i.e. you cant just flip a switch and on a whim do it so during those last days or minutes this law is probably a non-factor, but I am surmising, maybe it is really easy, I don't know.
