the auburn situation did happen....but that was a little different cause they didn't get into the championship game....the winner of the championship game still got a share of the title, the loser of the game didn't....was split between two winners of BCS bowls
i believe the tiebreaker in conferences is common opponent w/l record (which would be the same if they all have 1 loss) and then the point differential....i have been reading alot on this (haven't seen anything about the exact tie breaker) but everything i have read (not just WV based stuff) says that if wv wins, then they would win the bid....i assume that is because of their high point differential....will look into that!!

I stand corrected.
The USA Today Coaches Poll is contractually obligated to name the winner of this game as the National Champion in its final poll of the season.
The AP poll does not have any such obligation, as it is not part of the BCS formula.
So there can be two co-champions.

but not co BCS champions....when auburn split with OK (think it was OK) it was because auburn won the AP and OK won the BCS, right?? there will definately be a clear cut BCS winner, but my question is does the winner of the championship game AUTOMATICALLY get it, or does the BCS point system still play??

The tiebreaker for the Big East is highest BCS ranking, not point differential. If West Virginia beats Rutgers, it would be them, seeing as they're currently two spots ahead of Louisville.
Also, the BCS system is there to determine who PLAYS for the national championship, not who wins it. Whoever wins the game will be the champ.

Also, I think Auburn split with LSU - in that ugly, ugly, ugly championship game where LSU beat OK.
And BMetts is right, I remember hearing that now. So the winner of that game would get it.

lol, yeah....damn BCS screwed up all the other stuff i was thinking of....and it was LSU!! but how did LSU and Auburn not play in the SEC championship?? they are in different divisions aren't they? even if not, they still had to play each other at some time during the year?? dont quite remember how that went down, but i know it was a BIG mess!!

I think we're both confused...I looked it up, and Auburn got left out in 2004, when USC beat OK.
The LSU thing was the year before.

LOL, i give up!!! all i know is the BCS sucks!!! gotta love a computer making the decisions for us able minded humans.....i did hear something (think in this thread) that needs to be looked at, and that is not ranking any teams until like week 7....no one knows who may be good teams and who may suck (of course there are a few exceptions) and it screws up the whole strength of schedule issue, teams like rutgers who i dont even think were ranked in the preseason and had too far to go, etc....just venting now!! hate the BCS!!
Rutgers is losing big at cincy right now, and the SC/cal game is a must watch!! gotta go watch the cali battle!!
