Chychrun is a great player on a terrible, terrible team. His numbers are largely self-explanatory.
Klingberg has the luxury of playing on a team whose coach deploys a VERY defense-first strategy. Several offense-first type players like Seguin, Gurianov, Benn and Radulov as having atrocious years offensively playing under Ric Bowness. After Klingberg's -16, the next lowest plus/minus on the Stars blueline is career journeyman Joel Hanley and his -3. The Leafs need a defenseman who can help them out defensively, and John Klingberg simply isn't it.

I assume a top prospect, a 1st round pick, and a reasonably young roster player is what Giroux would cost (*IF* they want to deal him rather than extend him).
Assume that Philly would eat some cap, to make that part work (and up their return).

Rumors, giroux to Leafs or avs, if he wants. Has no movement clause

Yeah, and fair enough. When you put that plus minus into perspective like that - it does sound a lot worse (his is really bad, most of the team's is not).
He would be a massive add for anyone.
Gotta think the cost would be something like Sandin, a 1st, and Nick Robertson.

Yeah its definitely going to cost the Leafs a bundle if they get him. I dont put much stock into Plus minus stats. Good players play on bad teams. Look how many players Montreal has to move, most of them suck this year too but there will be lots of interest in both Chiarot & Petry. Petry is probably having his worst season ever & teams still want him cause they know he will help they're team.
As much as i like Robertson I would make that trade for Giroux. The Avs are already a very good team, if they add Giroux to that already potent mix of Snipers they already have you may as well just give them the Cup though Florida, Carolina might have something to say about that. Even Pittsburgh is on a roll lately. Should make for some exciting Playoff Hockey this year for sure!! I dont see anyone making a Flukey Run to the Cup this year, we should actually get to see a Good Stanley Cup Finals, not a 1 sided blow out like last year..

It amazes me how much teams will give up in long term potential just for a rental player, especially an old one. It rarely works out but I guess the temptation to win the big tournament is too much.
Giroux was born in Ontario but grew up a Habs fan so no appeal to Toronto aside from a possible chance at a Cup, if anyone could imagine that.

If the Habs can make the Finals then everyone has a chance. Last year showed us even Crappy teams can win if they get hot at the right time, well, at least until they get blown out in the Finals anyways!! That seems to happen to all the teams that get there & dont deserve to be there. Just look at Ottawa a few years back & the Devils a few years before that & even Dallas a couple years ago to prove my point!! They get to the Finals & get wiped out because they overachieved & dont belong there. I bet if you ask Tampa Bay of the 3 Times they have been to the Finals since 2016 which was the easiest i am sure you would hear without a doubt that last year was a cake walk

The Leafs were leaking again and even the putrid Wings made the D look bad in the second period. If it wasn't for Bunting in the third this would have been another loss and it is weird to see bc just a month ago the Leafs were the best defensive team in the league! Now they are relying on their special teams to win games which is bonkers b/c last year and at the start of the season, their special teams were historically terrible! What gives? lol. The bottom line is that there is no way to analyze this team. It goes through its ups and downs like no other team in the league and at the end of the day all that matters is a win.
Giroux would be a massive add to this team, but giving up on Sandin is a steep price. Robertson isn't that tough a pill to swallow since he can't stay healthy, but I don't know if anyone would want him. Giroux would be our third line centre, so imagine that. It takes depth to win in the playoffs if you look at Tampa's model so he would be nice to get for sure.

Yeah we looked pretty bad last night!! Fortunately we were playing Detroit & were able to come back in the game to win it but we looked pretty bad!! Until Dubas does something about this D i have absolutely no faith in this team to be able to win when it matters most, the Playoffs!! We have half a Season to right the ship still. I think the Leafs need to catch Tampa or Florida to avoid a good team in the 1st round too.

i believe Rielly was on for for all four goals
he seemed to be leading the rush on too many forays into the red wings zone
i stopped counting the number of times he and that #38 guy got caught out of position up the ice.
Holl even found his way to the front of the wings crease on occasion. and it takes Holl a while to get back to the Leafs zone.
the announcer claims they are "elevating their defense". to me it looks like they are taking too many chances.
good defensive teams limit the oppositions chances.
maybe their D better figure out their main goal is to prevent goals not to score them.
stop worrying about your offensive stats and be proud of your goalies low GAA and save %. the goalies cant do it without help from the D
