Yes it is only a temporary solution. There is no way the two sides were going to come to an agreement. I do not see them coming to an agreement in May either, unless BOTH sides actually put effort into making a deal.

It's obvious Canada Post needs to switch from just Letter-mail to Parcels as their main business model. Canada Post was advised to do this in 2015 but they refused saying they would stick with letter-mail which has been losing money for I think 7 years in a row now. CUPW knows there must be big changes in Canada Post business model which will include week-end deliveries. CUPW wants all current part-time employees to be full-time with benefits and all the new employees to be factored into the union and also get benefits. Why do they think they are worth 24% raise over 3 years? not a clue. that is 100% greed in my eyes. 70% of Canada Post makes over $30 an hour which is more than what I make and I am excellent at my job.

Canada Post cannot deliver packages or track packages properly. I am sure a huge portion of Canada Post employees are lazy and crap at their job. Not a majority I am sure, most humans are nice people and proactive. Many are lazy and greedy when given the chance to be lazy and greedy.

Will Canada Post go on strike in May? Probably, but I think they will come to an agreement. Either that or Canada Post folds in the next 4-5 years and entire over-haul of the Postal System in Canada will be needed with smaller companies or at least competing companies will take over delivery. Or Canada Post just continues to lose money because that's just what the government is good at.

Either way, a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety has been lifted for me because now my 50+ packages can finally start moving. I was stressed about how much money I could potentially lose given that 15 packages are already in the mail, about 20 here with stamps on them and another 15+ I still have to make. I would hate to have to give refunds, lose the cards and also have all those stamps/envelopes wasted and non-refundable.

If I told you what I actually thought about Canada Post and CUPW I would be banned from SCF for excessive use of profanity lol

Personally, i think you are starting to witness the death of Canada post.

Back in the day they had no competition. Now there are several options to choose from to do what they do. most are more expensive but do the same job. Think they do not compensate as well in pay, benefits and pension. Not really in the know so do not really know. Do know that the race is to the bottom with new companies paying less and having no pension plan.

Canada post has been losing monies for years. How can they compete with competitors who pay 30% less with next to no benefits, and still charge higher than Canada post to do the same service.

Hopefully not, 'cause then we would also be starting to witness the end of hockey cards trades by mail; for Canadians such as me anyway... All other options are way too expensive (for low to mid-end stuff anyways)...

Germany has a private postal service with affordable options, I think it is better to stay positive!

And to think, Canada Post wants to get into banking with their own credit cards. They already offer loans. Will they be wanting even more money for even less work when they become a bank?

Germany doesn't have to deliver that mail over a great distance and to remote communities.

This is why I very seldom do trades outside of Canada. No cheap option unless you do plain white envelope.

I am waiting to see what will happen this week. The Union workers in Calgary are saying they are going to ignore the back to work directive. It may be a bumpy road ahead.
