papi; anybody could throw to rice, but joe would put it in his hands without rice having to break stride. besides, rice says joe was the best. it isn't only me. go tell rice. :-)

Bearfield: Of course Rice would say Montana was the best, that's who throw him the ball best, Steve Young was a southpaw and it took Rice a good year to figure out the ball spin. Rice would say different if he would have caught the ball from Johnny Unitas or the great Sammy Baugh.

i've been hearing the balogna about unitas being better than montana since i started collecting. i look at it from this way. do they compare brady to unitas or baugh? NOT
that should give the unitas lovers a clue.
and we are talking about the whole game, not just 1 receiver, or just the passing game. montana won a lot of games without having to throw the big pass. he used everybody.
ask dwight clark.

A Unitas lover I am not, but overall he was a better QB than Montana. Montana had a lot of weapons (much like Brady) in his arsenal. He also played in a division, scratch that, a conference that was inferior. The 49ers won a lot of games, not Montana.

PAPI; i have seen both of them play, being 30 years older than you, unitas in my eyes, wasn't even close to joe. of course, thats just my expert "old fart" opinion.
you may substitute any number of words for "old fart" take your pick. :-)

Emmitt of course followed by Walter. You can talk about the great O Line and all that but it comes down to heart. Emmitt was all about team and that made him a champion. Barry, well he quit on his team.
Was Emmitt most talented? No
Was Emmitt the biggest? No
Was Emmitt the fastest? No
Best all round with the stats to back it up? Yes
