Of course if you ask a Dallas fan, it's Emmitt. As well as a Bears fan would say Payton.
In their own way they were great, but no one had the all around skill of Sanders regardless of no SuperBowl win or "quitting his team". A SuperBowl win doesn't quailify you as greatness, just ask Marino.

was emmitt a ball hog inside the 10? yes
did emmitt keep every ball he scored with? yes didn't he have enough money?
did emmitt change his clothes at halftime so he could have 2 record breaking uniforms? yes again with the money thing.
did emmitt give the o line credit? no
was emmitt all about emmitt? yes
as far as barry goes, he didn't have a team to quit on. how many years do you have to wait for a line or a QB?
bloomis; i did say marino was the best "passing" QB ever. and he did get to a superbowl, guess who beat him.
papi; i have seen some of the older QBs play and a little personal knowledge beats hearsay.

Bob, Bob, Bob,
Barry did play for a team and he did quit on them. It cost them dearly against the salary cap. Emmitt gave thanks to his O line on many occaisions. If it was all about Emmitt at least he has 3 rings and the rushing title to show for it......
BTW Happy New Year :

In regards to Football Sammy Baugh Hands down.
Not only one of the Greates QB's but pro bowl punter and DB.
I mean a QB with 31 picks as a DB that's crazy.
So I always rank him high as a player. But for each postion
Jim Brown for running back. Sill averaged more yards per game than anyone. Rarley had a bad game.
Sanders I would put a close second, due to being the entire team.
Payton is right there but the 3 years around 600 yds is tough. Sanders lowest per year was still over 1100. Also Payton never had the big years, in regards to scoring.
I would put is
Brown
Sanders
Payton
QB's is tough.
Unitis changed the postion.
Baugh was a great QB DB and Punter. I belive he was the passing leager, int leader and punting leader all for one season.
Montana I belive was good but had a great team and recievers (today's Manning)
Marino would have been great with a running game. You saw what it did for Elway once Denver got a ground game.
The one that everyone overlooks and is still in the top 10 in just about everything is Fran Tarkington when he left the game he held about every passing record.
I think QB's would be the toughest to judge. Do you go by stats??? Super Bowls??? take into account those that have Rice or Harrison to throw to???
I still have to put guys like Baugh and Tarkington up there with Unitis.
The modern guys like Brady and Manning are impressive. But Marino and Elway were also impressive.
But Fran Tarkenton gets my vote cause in his case like Sanders was the dang team. He ran around like a Loon until he found a open man. Dang dude put his life on the line everygame to win. And when he left at that time there was none better. Sure he never won the big one but if he had Jerry Rice and Roger Craig he would have.
If he had the Steel Curtin and Stallworth and Swaynn he would have. But he didn't, oh well that's my 2 cents.

myblues; behind emmitts line barry would have gotten 2000 yards for multiple years. he was that much better, and didn't emmitt have a line, a QB, and a couple good receivers?
JUST THINK what barry could have done with a line, a QB, and receivers.
and it should have cost them when he retired because of them screwing him all those years. the lions didn't spend money on a line or QB because barry brought the money in.
one running back by himself isn't taking any team to the superbowl, regardless of what the dallas and falcons fans think. note the reference to vick as running back. ha ha
as for the rest of you, i've said my piece and enjoyed the exchanges. till next time.
