BRONCOS ADD SAFETIES
With few solid safeties available in the draft and veteran John Lynch much closer to the end of his career than the beginning, the Broncos snagged a couple of last-line-of-defense free agents on Saturday.
Joining the team are former Chargers safety Marlon McCree and former Panthers safety Marquand Manuel (or is it Manuel Marquand?).
Per the Rocky Mountain News, Manuel's package has a base value of $4.5 million over three years, with $500,000 guaranteed. Up to $1.5 million can be earned in incentives.

Jets signed RB Jesse Chatman to a one-year contract.
Impact: Chatman, 28, revived his career in Miami last year, gaining 515 yards on 128 carries with 27 catches. For depth, we'd pencil him in right behind Thomas Jones, though Chatman and Leon Washington would likely split duties if Jones goes down. The move makes the Jets a bit less likely to draft Darren McFadden. Chatman (5'8/222) can be a bruiser, but scored only one TD in 2007 and shouldn't be a major short-yardage threat.

Bengals agreed to terms with OLB Darryl Blackstock, formerly of the Cardinals.Impact: Blackstock has struggled overall as a pro, but is only 24 and had three sacks off the bench last year. The Bengals will give more 3-4 looks going forward and he'll be sent as an edge rusher. Blackstock won't be in the mix to start.

Rams agreed to terms with Trent Green on a three-year, $8.9 million contract, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter. The deal includes a $2.1 million signing bonus.
Impact: It's a nice story, but Green isn't an upgrade from Gus Frerotte. Green knows offensive coordinator Al Saunders' system, but he's suffered serious concussions the last two years. Just as importantly, his accuracy and pocket presence have declined rapidly. This puts more pressure on the Rams to keep Marc Bulger healthy

Bucs signed WR Antonio Bryant.
Impact: A great gamble for Tampa and a perfect spot for Bryant. Bryant was out of the league in 2007 because of substance abuse problems, but he averaged 842 yards from 2004-2006 on poor passing teams. Those numbers compare favorably with far higher priced free agent wideouts this year. Bryant is a gamble, but the Bucs have a history taming problem players, and his size and speed are sorely needed. He should start and be a fine fantasy sleeper.

Love checking the wire :) Missed a couple days when I was out at Sea World.

His base salary will be $2 million, giving him a $17 million payout in 2008. Fitzgerald has a $5 million option bonus in 2009.
