Done with trading!!!
Hello, I have some news. I am not trading on SCF any longer. Don't worry, I'll still be here to chat with some of my buds, in this "Chit-Chat" section, but I have just found it IMPOSSIBLE to make a trade on here because I don't have any "high-end" or "hot prospects". It seems that the low-end collectors on the site have since left. Hopefully some new ones can spring up soon.
Now don't get me wrong, each one of my 500+ trades have been great, but I think that my trading time on here is done.
I have made many friends on this site, and it's been great, but I think some of the joy SCF had a while ago has since left with my absence of trading.
If you ever want to chat, my PM box is always open. :)
Thanks SCF and to all the buds I've made!

I feel ya....I'm a low-end collector (highest BV card is $40!), and it is challenging to find people who aren't looking for 1/1 patch autos of Michael Jordan, etc....I've been fortunate enough to have nearly 40 successful trades, trading nothing higher than $10 cards.
Sorry to hear that you are done trading! Are you still going to collect cards though?

Hello, I do have a couple cards that book for more than $100, but they're all PC ones. Most of the cards I have for trade book less than $5, and from all the trades I've made on here, most involved those cards.
Also, there are a few other sites I'm signed up on, so at the moment I'm not completely done trading.
Of course I'll still collect cards, it's addicting! :)

Same here, only my Ty Cobb Bat and my Dizzy Dean JSY can even be considered close to high-end. I also don't buy any packs that are more than $3 per. I try to stick to Upper Deck and Topps low-end products. Also, I am currently set building the 08 UD baseball and 08 Topps baseball sets, it's a great thing to try if you're planning to!

I have cards out of higher-end products (UD Hardcourt, UD Ovation), but none of them book more than $20....I am strictly low-end....like both of you, I can't afford to spend $50+ on a pack....the Hardcourt and Ovation packs I got were marked down to $2.99 and they were at a retail store....so, I picked them up....but most of my cards come from $10 or $20 blaster boxes, or $2-3 retail packs.
Oh yeah, my cards that book 'high' (over $12 or so) aren't for trade....that's my PC, even if I don't like the players! I just can't afford to trade them away....I guess if I looked at it, and decided that I'd rather have players from my PC instead of them, I'd trade, but I'm not at that point yet.
All of my cards for trade are low BV too....you had said <$5....me too...most are base or very low-end inserts....and, its unfortunate, but most people don't want that "junk".....a friend of mine told me that at the card shop he goes to, people would buy high end products and just leave the base cards on the counter....
Too many people are out to make a profit from this, rather than just enjoying it....I tend not to look at it as an investment, cuz they probably won't make money for me in the future....at least not the same amount I've put out!
I can say, without a doubt, that the highest BV card I've received from on here is a $30 Kevin Garnett card.....had a $25, $20 and a few $12 cards....everything else has been less than $10, and I am fine with that.

Well put, couldn't have said it better. The most expensive card I've ever gotten in a trade was around $25-30, and I'm fine with that. I agree with what you said about the lower-end packs, I just bought a $20 08 UD blaster from Target because I'm building the set and I just enjoy opening packs, and I ended up with a lot of good stuff from it, so even the lowest of the low-end can be fun to open.
Also, I agree 100% with your opinion of profit, if you're in this for profit, you better find something else. :)

Another thing - if I had $100 to spend on cards....I'd buy a box of low-end, and a few 'nicer' packs....no way would I buy 1 high-end pack....I'd much rather open alot of packs than 1 pack, especially for $100!

I'd definitely do the same thing.

I know how you feel man, I'm more of a low-end collector myself, the main focus of my collection are Rookies. I also try to get all the base from my teams that are released. I do have a few jersey cards, but they aren't near high end, just the ones you can get for 50 cents plus shipping on Ebay. It kills me when I start a topic saying I'm looking for a certain players rookie cards, and everyone sends me messages saying they have a 100 dollar rookie patch/auto/jock strap card, and they are asking me what patch cards I have of Tom Brady and Joe Montana and all these big names. I'm 15, so I don't have money to buy 200 dollar boxes just so I can take a stab at getting an Adrian Peterson card and end up with what everyone else will consider garbage. It also kills me when you see these box breaks on Youtube, and guys spend 250 bucks on a pack of cards with 5 cards, and they get 5 jerseys/autos and they complain about it being a bad box cause they didn't get any big names. In my case, if I buy a pack of Topps Total for 99 cents and get a base card of a Cleveland player or any rookies, I'm excited. Its kinda a shame the hobby is like that now, a lot of people won't even consider trading with you if you don't have any jerseys or autos.
