OK, time for me to chime in here, because, well, I havent yet...

I agree with both sides of this argument. I view myself as a trader, not a high end or low end trader. Im just as happy to trade for a nice auto as I am for a sage hit base card of a guy I collect. I think, rather than labelling people as High end or Low end traders, we should look at their collecting goals.
For instance, I want to rebuild my 2001 SP Authentic football set that I once had almost finished. I also collect Hall of Famer autographs. So, in that sense, I am a high end trader, since a lot of that stuff isnt cheap.
On the flip side, I am building topps football sets from the 80s and 90s, as well as trading for ANY Vernon Gholston card I can get, even if its base, and even if I have a bunch of them, so, in that regards, Im a Low End collector.
The important thing to look at, in my opnion at least is.
A. Do both sides of a deal have stuff the other side wants? Plenty of times Ive looked at a bucket filled with absolutely awesome cards, and have seen nothing I wanted to trade for. Similarly, I have been able to make trades with people whos tradelist consists of 1 retail pack of football base. Its all in what you are looking for.
B. Is the person respectful when you are working a trade? Ive broken off more trade talks because the other trader was rude, or seemed to not really care about the trade.
C. Are both sides happy? Ultimately, this is what matters. Ive traded 100 dollar cards for a large lot of base before, but both traders were happy with the deal.

Finally, as someone, or many people have said, please realize that on a board with thousands of members, you will find pricks, dicks and jerks. Dont judge us all, judge your traders as individuals- trade with the good ones, avoid the bad ones, and HAVE FUN!

I don't think people who only want high end are bad people or traders. I hate not having good stuff to trade to get my higher end wants. I don't buy a whole lot of cards so i don't have a wide selection to trade from. It's not a big deal to me because i have like 8 years of base pc i need to get from being away from the hobby. I actually like the fact alot of people don't want their base, that means i can get it easy and most times cheap. It is frustrating to try and get some cards and all they want is high end but there are alot of people on this site and there are more sites out there, someone will have what your looking for and want something you have. I would be down for a low end trading group if someone wants to get it going or i will.

And being an adult and having a full time job doesnt mean you have more money to buy cards, it means you have more money to pay bills. So please don't think it's easier.

I can see both sides too. I fall in the middle...definitely not high end, but not entirely low end either. My brother is a low-end collector, he generally only buys retail packs of Topps products, but he buys a lot of them. Instead of buying a lot of low-end, I save my money and buy a little of mid-range. Instead of buying a $20 blaster at Wal-Mart each week, I'll buy one $80 hobby box a month, usually Donruss or along those lines. And all the money I spend on my cards comes from stuff I sell on eBay...none of our families income goes towards the hobby. So even if you have limited funds, you can buy better cards. If you choose not to, that's totally understandable too.

I don't understand why some collectors only want $50+ BV GU and autos...but they do. So I just figure out who those people are and avoid them, because I know I don't have anything for them. I can't stand it when someone puts up a tradelist w/RCs, #'d, inserts, etc, but will only trade for GU or autos. On the flip side, I can't stand when someone wants one of my nicer GU or autos, but only wants to trade base, RCs, inserts, etc. Since I don't have that many GU and autos (I think about 19 combined at the moment), I tend to be a little more protective of them. And while there are a lot of each on here, there are also a lot of traders that trade everything for everything. If I collect a player, I collect everything of that player...base, inserts, RCs, #d, GU, auto. I'll happily trade (and have on several occasions) a low-mid end auto for a lot of non-GU/auto of my players. It's all about the point of view and you just have to find the kind of traders you like and avoid the rest, as someone said before.

I do like the idea of a low-end trading forum, although I'm skeptical about how much business it would get. It would be nice to have a forum you can go to to trade for base, RCs, inserts, etc...I would almost like to see one that has a no GU or auto trading rule. That way you would know the people you're talking to are ok w/trading for the cheap stuff and there wouldn't be people coming in just to unload their cheap stuff for your GU and autos. I think it's a good idea...

Wow, this thread has grown since I last checked it! :)

I would definitely try and continue trading on here if there was a separate forum for us low-end traders.

Also, adding on to my previous argument, I have absolutely NO problems with high-end collectors, it's just that I'm not really one like that and it's hard to make a trade when the two sides are have different collecting ethics.

But in all seriousness, Nick......it'll be sad to see you off the trading boards. Though I can certainly see where you're coming from. My trading has slowed down considerably and I don't know when I'll eventually reach 200, let along 600+. With everyone having seemingly endless sources of money to purchase box after box of SP Legendary Cuts, Black, Premier, Triple Threads, etc etc, to replenish their trading stock it's hard for us teenagers to keep up. Everyone wants the high-end stuff or the newest thing out, and we usually can';t get either of them.

Hey Dan, if that "low-end traders" group thing takes off, I'll probably be up for some more trades on this board. I agree, we are pretty much the same kind of collector, and I think that's the reason why me and a lot of other collectors like you have made trades.

Interesting thread...I joined a short time ago after deciding I couldn't stand looking at the 12, 5000 count boxes full of cards I have continue to collect dust anymore. I have tons of cards from all sports including racing but the majority of what I have is hockey. All I want to do is start trading for Bruins, Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics as my sports room is all New England teams. My pool table felt is even Patriots blue. I've been paying attention to trade offers that have been made to and from other members and the new products are definately front and center. That has me a bit concerned because right now all I have to offer are cards from the 80's through 90's. I started loading cards into a photobucket last night and hope to start making offers and talking trades tonight. Good luck to everyone!
