$2650 a month is not a lot but at least you are going to be getting something. Also, if they kick u out you can find a job as a civilian on any Federal Agency.
The best thing you can do is leave everything to the one above and you are going to be alright.

Hey Shane,
First off best of luck to you and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. I wanted to let you know a few things that should(I hope)ease the mental burden your having. My dad has had multiple back surgeries and one fusion. I have seen the effects of this in a lot of his areas of life.
You have a few good things working for you
#1) As mentioned, you should be in great shape
#2) You are still very young, this certainly helps out in the recovery process.
#3) As mentioned, technology has only gotten better. Being a Marine I am sure you will be sent to some of the best in the area.
There are a few things you should consider asking around for too.
#1)What kind of restrictions does this put on me in the long term. My dad injured his back on the job and was declared medically 20% disabled. I am not sure of your involvement as a Marine, but there may be a few extreme things you will no longer be able to do.
#2)What kind of options could you transfer into? I know you probably don't want to leave the area you are currently in. But if you could get an office position or computer position of some kind for a few months it will put you back to work sooner. Secondly, by asking this now it will give you all open positions incase there does happen to be a mistake made and/or you are restricted in the long run.
#3)Research the surgery/procedure. If you understand what is being done to you, it will help you feel better about what is going on. From what I remember my dad found out this is going to be a 2 week hospital stay(this surgery was 6 years ago I believe) and then it was a lot of bed rest till the 2-3 month period. It is a task that a lot of people overlook, but they say that it helps in the long run.
Those are just some of the things we had to encounter during my dad's operation. He used to deliver bread for a living, but had to switch to a lighter job as dropping 150 pound stacks 7-10 feet off a truck daily was just too much stress on his back. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact me VIA PM. I am glad to help you out with what ever I can.

Jay- Thanks man. I am an Infantryman by trade so being hear at a computer is like tourture!! but i think that is all im going to be able to do for awhile. I find out which of the many options they have givin me out on the 18th of this month. I definatly be looking into whatever it is they decide to do. I believe they said depending on what they do to me I'll be looking at 2-4 weeks in the hospitol and 3-5 months bed rest. i definatly will be taking it easy durring that time. I dont think they will let me stay in the milatary though. As a Marine, no matter my job, I still have to be able to run 3 miles in undr 28min, at least 3 pull ups(i cant even get on the bar anymore) and 55 crunches in 2min. but you never know. thanks for the words man, all info helps!

hey - i am 26 - i was supposed to get back surgery on L4L5 and L5S1- i have been told to put it off as long as possible because it can cause many problems. Fusion puts pressure on your other vertebrae and makes it more likely that they will pop as well. My surgery would be only a microdiscectomy so it isnt as bad but still has many complications. How many opinions have you gotten and have you gone through PT/cortisone shots
