MJ, the best PLAYER ever, hands down.

MJ as a GM, he should have just stuck to retirement =p

You ever see Russell? I have seen some old black and white videos. I think the stats don't lie. Russell was the best.

Jordan is 6'6". The average height of players in his era was 6'7", although the average height today is now 6'6". Players continue to get shorter as the league places a greater emphasis on finesse over power play. The 1990s were the last great decade of dominant centers, when Shaq, Ewing, Hakeem, David Robinson, Dikembe Mutombo, and Rik Smits were all playing in their prime. That Andrew Bogut and Emeka Okafor are the best centers in the Eastern Conference after Dwight Howard shows the laughable and lamentable state of the less talented big man in today's game. (Ancient Shaq is second in West center voting after Yao Ming, if anyone needs additional insight into how much the position has declined.)

In greater context, this also means that Jordan had to drive to the basket against bigger, stronger, better centers players than today's swingmen - and he didn't have the benefit of the hand-checking rule, either!

I think LBJ could take any center from any decade but not the Worm.

I think Jordan was the greatest of his time. I however am not now or have ever been a AI fan, I personally think Iverson is a thug. His troubles started early including a bowling alley incident where he allegedly hit someone in the head with a chair (so talking about Jordans troubles which were never violent is unfair), this however doesn't take away from the fact that Iverson is very talented but no where close to the greatest, by the way he stole his moves from Tim Hardaway the inventor of the crossover, lol. I do think that Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were almost as good as Jordan. I also see that people talk about him retiring and coming back which time, the 1st time the only reason Jordan retired is because his father was killed. Oh and how come when people talk about the greats nobody ever talks about Pistol Pete, I loved that guy. Sorry went on a bit of a ramble there. How about Earl "The Goat" he was the man to but never had the chance to go pro, I think he would have ripped it up in the pros to.

Russell seems to be very humble in his interviews. Do you think he would said really think he would say he was greater? He's not Wilt.

I have not been MJ Fan...

    About question..'Was he overrated?'

    Yap...He was overrated....

than GOD, IDEA and whatever perfect shaped or Imagined things...=)

    He was not perfect..that's all.

He should get 10 rings..but only 6 rings because of retiring..=)

Even one of poor clutch Shooter Robert Horry has had 7 rings...

    Yap..He is overrated..

futhermore..he is really poor at playing baseball..lol

I think there would be no more player like mike ....not before and not after...

Who can influence DOW-Jones Indice when his return's day ?

Who can be really admired by Other Country People(non-sports) ?

Even my parents knows Mike...They have never seen any NBA Game though..

Right..MJ was not alone...always with Pip, Grant, Cartwright, Kukoc and Dennis Rodman.

    But imagine this...

At that time too many legend or nearly legend were there...

C - Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Dikembe Mutombo, Shaquille O'neal, Alonzo Mourning, Robert Parish

PG - Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, John Stockton, Anfernee Hardaway(Magic), Gary Payton(Sonics)

SG - Clyde Drexler, Reggie Miller, Joe Dumars, John Starks

SF - Larry Bird, James Worthy

PF - Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Shawn Kemp, Charles Oakley, Dennis Rodman(Pistons), Kevin Willis, Kevin McHale

and others too many great players..

I knew there were a few I was missing! And Russell/Havlicek.

I think it was more Russell/Cousy. As for MJ being overrated, i don't think he was, he did played well even before he had Pippen, i think Pippen was the missing piece to that team to get them over the hump. But as mentioned, there is always a side player that helps out the greats. The only problem with Jordan was the competition, he did play during an expansion era in the early 90s

Jordan had the desire to kick you, punch you, tell you what was about to happen, then do it, and gloat about it afterwards.

I LOVE it! LOL He'd tell you exactly what he was going to do, then do it and STILL get by the defense!
Russell played with a bunch of athletically declined white guys. END OF STORY.

Why is race so important? And no, Russell played with plenty of great players - Wilt Chamberlain?
I think it was more Russell/Cousy.

    And Havlicek later - Cousy was 50's and 60's - Havlicek was 60's 70's I believe...

Great thread. Took me a while to make it to page 11.

As an old fart on this site (32), I've watched a lot of basketball in my time, especially a lot in the 90's. I never have been a Bulls fan or particularly a Jordan fan. That being said, he's the best I've ever seen play. Better than Kobe. Better than LBJ. Can't compare him to Russel, Wilt, etc. as I didn't watch them play much.

There was something about MJ that I've never seen in another player. He was so incredibly dominating and amazing to watch. I'm a huge Drexler fan, having grown up a lifelong Blazers fan, and I can tell you hands down that while their games are similar, MJ was better and more dominating.

Fans on here that didn't grow up watching him play season after season, game after game, really can't compare based on a few highlight reels. Watch those 82 game seasons year after year and you'll see what I'm talking about.

MJ annoyed the crap out of me during his playing days because I was rooting against him usually and he always ended up doing something amazing and winning.

If anyone's underrated its Pippen. Rode MJ's coattails. What did he ever do on his own?!?
