I love starting discussions people. It's good to talk about things like this. Just so you guys know, I'm saying he's not the best of all time. He's just the best in his era and he got some help from the NBA to get there.

you can say all you want about Jordan, fact is he won 6 championships. he may be a bit overrated but yet again in the clutch he was automatic.

I agree 100%. Here's my definition of overated. When you can get by with raping a woman, and pay here off to keep her mouth shut. Buy your wife a $120,000 diamond ring to keep her around for a little while longer and the value of your cards sky rocket when you go to the playoffs. Kobe is the definition to overated. Jordan earned everything he has. Encluding all of his fans that help make him what he is still to this day.

Wilt was hardly an "athletically declined white guy." Neither was black Walt Bellamy, who averaged 25 PPG and 15 PPG in the early and mid '60s (Russell's prime!) And so was Nate Thurmond, a guy who was black and averaged nearly 20 PPG and 20 RPG in the mid '60s. There was also that black guy Willis Reed, who averaged double figure points and rebounds in the mid '60s. There was also that black guy Lucious Jackson, who averaged double figure points and rebounds in the same time frame.
Let's not forget there were nine teams in the 1964-65 season, and I just named five black guys who averaged a double double against Russell! That means there were only three white guys out of nine teams - a minority percentage - and one of them was Jerry Lucas, who averaged 20 points and 20 rebounds per game!
Please pardon me, but whenever people say Wilt and Russell had no competition and played only against horrible white guys, they are factually incorrect. This isn't even an argument or a debate; it's incontrovertible reality.

I agree. I think Russell was the best of all time. He did everything you need to do to win Championships(this means not scoring points, but doing everything else http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Russell). He didn't have the support of the NBA like Jordan did. He did it in a era when black men had to struggle more than now.

no way russell. i would have to say wilt on that. but pound for pound MJ is at least top 2 greatest of all time. he wasnt a 7 footer playing against 6"5' at tallest guys. he was a normal size guy with great athletisism

Scoring doesn't win champioships. A.I proved that. Kobe couldn't win a championship the year he scored 81. Everything else matters for the banner. This why I think Russel was the best.

How tall was Jordan? The average height in America for men is around 5'9". I don't think he was a normal sized guy.Last edited by drtom2005; 12-27-2008 at 04:56 AM. Reason: typing
