We all need to remember however, that we are all racing collectors and we all love this hobby, I have all my life and will continue to do so.

and at post 50 the reason we need this section and "ELSE WHERE" to be successful is just that....
    that was very well put

One thing I think is foolish is having to use card cash to play games. At the old site they were free and you could waste a bit of time and see how you can score up to a friend on the board. I found that kind of fun figuring I love mini games and you can find soooo many sites that have them for free. But there you were scoring up to people you knew.
    Bring back free games.

Well, I've been reading this since it's inception and been thinking of how exactly to chime in.

First off, thank you Chris, for taking the time to say what you said.

As a staff member, I try to police the racing forum to the best of my ability. Anyone who has had banner violations, chances are I'm the one who you have heard from. To Kevin and John, I apologize. Kevin, I loved your banner and I do hope to see it again.

I also enjoy being both here and there, and I LOATHE using the terms "here" or "elsewhere"! I think they are both great sites and no doubt one would suffer without the other. I don't get on nearly as much over there as I would like to but have had some great dealings with those people over there. Though I understand why we cannot say their name, I do think it's silly. I, personally, don't see it as competition, but moreso as a colleague. Others, no doubt see it differently.

The trade manager here I feel is top notch as well as the layout of the site.

I really wish there were more we as a team could do as far as the ignorance of SOME of the stick and ball people, but that comes with the territory of being a sports card site as opposed to a racing-only site.

Sorry if I may have gotten a little off track, but I enjoy trading PERIOD!! And I know that if I complete a trade here or there, I have not only gotten cards I am looking for, but (hopefully) earned the respect of someone who I can trust and who can trust me to trade with in the future.

Whether it's been Dan or Les or Jeremy or Christina or Mike or whoever, I have had a pleasure dealing with all y'all. I look forward to dealing with y'all in the future.

    Pete

I cant really add anything new, but i love how the basketball collector came in and showed is intelligence. Think really hard before you make comments to a nascard collector we do stick up for each other....the comment you made about ppl driving everyday why would a person collect nascar...hummmm, I play basketball alot why would i collect basketball? I do pick up the occasional bulls or VT players card but that is it. Mabe when you get your license and learn to drive you may see.

oh and thanks to Les for still doing the case/box sells...its more appreciated than you know.

exactly, alot of those guys dont understand just how technical and difficult the sport really is. there is obviously a huge differnce between driving on the highway at 55 mph and going 4 wide at 200 mph lol. i really think that its the toughest sport in the world, if you make one little mistake you can get killed. not to mention how insane the competition level is.

Dont really want to get into a comparison battle of here and there, but, as a daily visitor here i dont post often. One thing that bothered me here is it seems like we are treated like 3 year olds, rules, rules and more rules, we are all adults here, maybe some of the higher of the higher ups should realize this. I know its probly in the best interest because of a few yahoos that have forced these rules into place.

Another thing that would defintely make the racing boards of SCF better would be a general discussion board. Maybe someone had a crappy day and wants to vent, someone lost a family pet, wrecked a car, or bought a new house, or caught the fish of a lifetime. Lots of people im sure would use the thread and it would probly give alot of the folks the opportunity to get to know each other better, maybe put a face with the name for instance. Maybe wish someone happy birthday, i know when you get older it just a number, but it gives you a warm fuzzy so to speak to know someone actually cares a bit to say it.

Also liked a point Chris made with the break hits. Make the prizes available to the race collectors, seem s like the nicer cards get won by a football guy who wants triple BV in return for it and has no appreciation for the card.

Its got to be tough to be a mod here with the other sports as well, and i dont envy the job any of the mods have. Think you guys have a great site, hopefully with a few upgrades it can be better. Will continue to visit everyday, mostly. Thanks for all the hard work that goes on here.

Some good points Chris!! Laurie my comments weren`t directed at you, I know you, bought from you on Yahoo. My comments were directed at the stick & ball folks who troll here lookin for free stuff with absolutely no intention on actually starting a collection. As I said just lookin to flip it. I have absolutlely no problem with someone from another forum who`s lookin to get into racing that`s cool! Just lookin for free stuff isn`t.

As far as cc auctions and whatnot, why is it that every mod or most every mod has a ton of it? I find that curious. i know there`s ways to win it but in my eyes that looks strange to me. I`m not singleing anyone out with that comment either. That`s another subject though lol.

Laurie if I offended you I apoligize to you. You weren`t included in my comment. On with the discussion!!

I dont know if I have any ways to improve but maybe I can throw out a few comments. I mainly deal in football but starting to get into Nascar a bit. It just seems to me that with the limited number of drivers out there to collect that your always competing with several people for that drivers stuff unlike other sports where there are several hundred players to choose from. I trade on several sites (not the one everyone has mentioned) and SCF by far has the best racing forum out there. I do NOT come here for free cards but I know how alot of people jump all over the contests and then they are in other forums with a post...I dont collect Nascar...who wants this? I pretty much think trading in general is getting tough these days. Well I guess I have rambled on long enough....espically for a guy that usually has nothing to say.

Looks like several positive ideas have come from this...hopefully from what I have seen a few of these can be put into place to help build the racing community and bring newer Nascard collectors such as Brian that just posted in and help them both feel welcomed into the group and build his collection...Brian if you would post which driver or drivers you collect I bet the members here would help get you started collecting,,,,most base and insert cards are very plentiful ...the best thing about opening a pack of racing cards is that you are always going to get a top 5 driver out of each pack...with the sets normally being limited to 80 cards or less it is easy to pull you favorite ....also Press Pass does it's best to make sure that the race used items placed in packs are the most popular drivers....not the field fillers....I have noticed that with other sports you will have 2000 of each of the back up running backs game used jersey cards...which has really seperated the values of the cards from where they were even 5 years ago...with Nascar you only have an average of 200 to 250 race used pieces of most of the items...car covers are the obvious exception...but for the most part Nascards game used and autos hold value better than the other sports cards....on the down side of that the other sports seem to have no celling on the price that some of the cards can bring...I often find myself in gawking at the computer when I see some of the prices that Tiger Woods....some of the Hockey rookie game used and some of the rookies from basketball have brought in the recent years...I wouldn't swap over to collect them...but it is still amazing that the most expensive Nascard ever sold went just under $1900 ....and there haven't been too many break $1000...
opps...sorry...wrote a partial novel again...I am taking my soap box and putting it away....
    but before I do so....
one of the common denominators that I have seen on most post on this thread is the common problem of other sports card people coming to this section and making some rude at minimum remarks toward our sport and /or hobby.....I do realize that you will always have this issue when you have multi sports on the same site...
but how about using the rules to the Nascard communities advantage??
based on this 5 point infraction some of the comments that get made should fall under this rule...
5 points – Causing major problem on the boards
(Please avoid adding fuel to a burning fire. Instigating will not be tolerated.)

to me if you come onto a forum area and have no intention of becoming a collector or a fan and make rude remarks that should be considered INSTIGATING

here is the definition of instigating ...
    in⋅sti⋅gate

/ˈɪnstɪˌgeɪt/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [in-sti-geyt] Show IPA Use instigating in a Sentence

–verb (used with object), -gat⋅ed, -gat⋅ing. 1. to cause by incitement; foment: to instigate a quarrel. 2. to urge, provoke, or incite to some action or course: to instigate the people to revolt.

several of the post I have seen made by people that don't collect racing would easily fall in this category...maybe if a few of them got a little 5 point ding they would get the message....I am sure they would go to their sports mod and complain and probably get it over turned...but it would hopefully make them think twice.....for the most part Nascar people are reallly laid back and easy to get along with....we don't want trouble and don't bash other sports or their collectors....and on any open board that I have been a member of with any type of Nascard section there have always been HATERS....that believe we are uneducated beer drinking rednecks....when truth be known we are pretty far from it...welll at least the uneducated and redneck part....we get stereotyped more times than not and don't get respect from the magazine that has a really bad web site and gives Nascar 6 pages a month for $7.99....I remember arguing with them about continuing to produce a Racing only magazine...they claimed it would have to be at least $12 to $14 based on lack of ad sales...I told them we would rather pay $14.99 a quarter for a magazine all about Nascards and die cast as opposed to $4.99 a month for 4 pages in the Baseball one ....well we see how that turned out...
as Nascar fans and collectors we need to do what we can to encourage others that are fans to get started collecting the cards....heck if you have people you know and talk Nascar with on a regular basis take the time to dig out some of your base cards and inserts of their driver and give to them.....they may not have the slightest bit of interest in them....but if they do it will help us to build the community...remember Nascar has the second largest fan base of any sport in America and it has the largest comsumer spending fan base....pretty much we are the hardest core fans of any of the sports....yet we are at the bottom of the list when it comes to the hobby...if each of us will do a little more to help promote cards we can add to our numbers....
I have sent Press Pass a few ideas on cross promoting with other media resources...such as doing a Brooks and Dunn dual auto card for an upcoming release and advertise in some of the Country Music Magazines about Nascar featuring this autograph in the release....also suggested getting involved in each tracks Program Guides....if the track and Press Pass could work together the Program Guide could have a card with a picture of last years race winner in victory lane ...along with a small ad telling about Press Pass trading cards...and where to buy them at.... I believe the cards would be a big hit among collectors and might help build the collector base of Nascar....
I promise you won't get one of these post tomorrow ! Cause I have to work....

oh and on the Card Cash that staff has...they are given CC as a payroll type deal...that is one of the few perks they get for helping

anyway it has been good to visit...
if you need me I will be in the batcave...
