As much as I want Lamar to stay a Laker, Buss did offer him 2 very reasonable contracts which his agent supposedly never responded back to. 3 years $30 million or 4 years $36 million. They did offer him $10 million a year which is what he wanted in the first place. Considering they are willing to pay double that due to luxury tax, I believe it was more than fair.
I cant stand writers and some fans who blame Kobe for not taking a pay cut to save a few million dollars to keep Odom and/or Ariza. Honestly why should he. He wasnt the one who overpaid to keep Sasha, Walton, Bynum (too soon to tell), and Morrison (technically Radmonovic 3 off seasons ago). He is one of the best players in the league and sells tickets and jerseys for the team. Buss is making bank of him.
Artest signed with us for 5 years at the mid level. Regardless of what he did in the past, he signed for less money to win. That is something that Lamar should consider.
I dont see the Lakers helping Lamar getting a 5 year $50 million contract by facilitating a sign and trade unless it helps them financially. So unless a team (Dallas or Miami) is willing to take back either Walton or Sasha and send expiring contracts out our way, I dont think it will happen.
We dont really need anything from Dallas, Josh Howard plays the same position as Kobe and Artest. Jason Terry would be nice, but we need a 4 in return. So unless Cuban offers the expiring contract of Dampier and is willing to take back Sasha and Walton, I dont see it happening.
If Odom leaves for Miami, which I think may happen, the only sign and trade idea that I think makes logical sense for both teams is Odom and Farmar for Haslem and Beasley. With Odom starting at the 4 for Miami, Haslem isnt really needed since Jermaine is the 5. And Beasley wont really get to play that much. Haslem and Beasley can come off the bench for the Lakers and can provide defense and youth. Haslem is an expiring contract and Beasley will be for the future. Farmar can be dealt to either start or back up Chalmers since I see Shannon Brown playing more than him next season.
Another trade I like but think is doubtful is Odom and Farmar to the Bulls for Hinrich and Tyrus Thomas. Bulls really dont need Hinrich with Rose and Salmons starting. And they seem to be down on Tyrus. Odom can step in to start at the 4 and Farmar to back up Rose. We get a starting point guard for the future in Hinrich and Tyrus off the bench. Hinrich's contract is reasonable and it goes down in salary the next 3 seasons. Obviously Chicago has to be willing to pay $9-10 million a year for Odom, but considering they are going after Boozer, this idea isnt much of a longshot.

Yeah, those two trade possibilities with the Heat and Bulls are very nice, but i think highly unlikely of happening. It just works too much in our favor...Then again, Mitch was able to trade Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol. So I'm at a point where anything can happen.
But, if it's true that Lamar only wants $38 mil for 5 years. The Lakers should jump on that quickly.

If Odom is looking for 5 years $38 million, that basically means he wants the full mid level from Miami. I have a feeling now the Lakers will offer 5 years $40 million since Buss seemed annoyed. The way the Lakers should structure it is 5 years $40-42 million with a player option after the first season. So Odom can opt now next off season when Morrison, Fisher, Farmar, Mbenga, Powell, and Yue come off our salary cap and try to resign for more money.
I seriously think the only place Odom would leave the Lakers for is the Heat. But if the Heat trade Haslem and filler for Boozer and want to also sign Odom, they will be a logjam with Jermaine and Beasley. So then I think Blount and Beasley would be sent our way for Odom and Farmar perhaps.Last edited by key2win; 07-16-2009 at 01:30 AM.
