The cabbie's lawyer is saying it's been blown out of proportion and he thought it was a couple of "college kids", didn't know who he was. Sounds like the settlement is underway already

Hardly. Many people from Buffalo on other message boards (hfboards.com) say they have regularly seen him out on Chippewa being served.

I would have to say my opinion is an assumption.
4AM and taking a cab home? It's not like he was at the library or a midnight madness movie!!!!!!! You had better hope he WAS drunk to do something stupid like that!!

I'm not going to make any excuses for Kane.... he should be charged for what he did (and I'm sure there will be a settlement, and charges dropped. That will work out much better for the Cabbie, I'd bet).
I'm just shocked how many posts there were questioning the underage drinking. I don't even mean a post suggesting that people should wait for all the facts that come out before making an opinion on this incident..... but it seems like a few people were actually surprised that a 20-year-old NHL Star was out drinking on a Weekend through the summer? While I realize that drinking age in the USA is 21, I'd be shocked if you told me Patrick Kane (or replace that with any other < 21 NHLer) didn't do his fair share of binge drinking in the summer.

I'm not surprised he was drinking underage, the overwhelming majority of my peers did (I'm almost 28). I chose not to because there is a lot of alcoholism in my bloodline. I have a "few pops" every now and then, as Don Cherry would say.
However, he was in the Chippewa district, the nightlife area of town where people go out to party (including the current Sabres) and the bars don't close down until 4am. I think it's pretty safe to assume he was drinking, and since he was with his 21 year old cousin I'm sure he just got drinks for him.

Yeah..... I mean in Ontario where the legal drinking age has been 19 forever.... I don't think I knew too many people who hadn't been drunk at least once well before their 18th birthdays. That's just what everyone did. The last couple of years of high school, through to the end of college.... it was heavy drinking on most weekends. Then you grow up and stop. Like I said..... I'd be shocked if NHLers didn't go through the same phase. Late teens to mid-20s... I just think of it as something inevitable.

If the cab fare is $13.80 don't most decent people tip??? If they gave him $15 then a tip $1.20 would be low but acceptable. For a millionaire to ask for change is just disgusting let alone beat the guy up over $0.20! He better have been drunk out his mind because if he wasn't it would make it worse!

I have to agree on most points here. The underage drinking thing (I guess it hasn't been confirmed in the media) doesn't bother me because I did it, and as pointed out, many others have. It's not right for Kane in this situation, but it's not a surprise.
I also agree about the nightlife stuff (that's what I've read) and what happens with the younger hockey players.
Lastly, and something I also thought of, is that he was going to give the guy a $1.00 tip? I mean, here in Canada, I think the 'norm' now is 15% tip. Not saying you have to tip, but it's very common. Why not just give him the $15 and be done with it!? Geeeeez!!!
Oh, and yes, I hope he was drunk to act like that, and tip like that!!!!!!! At least then he has an excuse....
