Possible Blockbuster Involving NYY, DET, ARI?
Apparently a pretty huge 3-way trade is being discussed at the winter meetings. The report says the original proposal by the Diamondbacks has been rejected by either the Tigers or Yankees (my guess is the Tigers), but they are all probably still working on a deal. Whether or not it actually happens... who knows. But it's the offseason, and I love me some rumors. So here is the meat of the rumor from FOX Sports per Ken Rosenthal...
Sources: Yanks have discussed big trade — 10:46 p.m.
This would be a blockbuster.
The Yankees, Diamondbacks and Tigers have discussed a three-way trade that would send Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson to New York and right-hander Edwin Jackson to Arizona, major-league sources say.
The talks are at an impasse, according to one source. The proposed deal is being pushed by the D-Backs, but was rejected by at least one of the two other teams, the source says.
While trade talks are fluid and the names involved could change, sources say the following scenario is under discussion:
• The Yankees would receive Granderson from the Tigers and one or two prospects from the Diamondbacks.
• The Diamondbacks would get Jackson from the Tigers and right-hander Ian Kennedy from the Yankees.
• The Tigers would get right-hander Max Scherzer from the Diamondbacks, and center fielder Austin Jackson and left-handed relievers Phil Coke and Michael Dunn from the Yankees. -- Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi

Now I'll get to my reaction to the rumor...
I think the Yankees would make out like bandits in this deal. Curtis Granderson + prospects from the D'Backs for Austin Jackson and Ian Kennedy? Umm... yes please. Curtis Granderson is what the Yankees are hoping Austin Jackson will someday become and his contract is pretty reasonable in my opinion. Ian Kennedy is essentially a throw-in as far as I'm concerned.
Max Scherzer is a stud. I would imagine the Tigers would be very happy to have him. Lots of people have different opinions on Austin Jackson. I've heard he'll be "special," I've heard he's Mike Cameron 2.0, and I've heard he's completely overhyped. I tend to agree with the third assessment, but maybe the Tigers feel differently. I do think Scherzer and Jackson is a good starting point for what they're giving up, if they could get a little more enticing back-end of the deal (as opposed to Coke and Dunn), I could definitely see them making this trade.
I honestly don't know what the Diamondbacks are doing here. They are apparently the ones pushing for this deal to happen. Giving up Scherzer + one or two more prospects for Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy? Edwin Jackson is a good pitcher, don't get me wrong, but he's coming off a year that has inflated his value. Have I mentioned Scherzer is a stud? And Ian Kennedy, in my humble opinion, is the epitome of a AAAA-player. I guess if the prospects they'd be sending to the Yankees are complete trash, that might be one thing. But if they're of any sort of value, it really doesn't add up to me.

I would personally love this trade, I have always loved Granderson. I do think Kennedy will be good in the majors though in the future. Maybe the NL would be good for him instead of New Yorks huge stage. Imagine what that must be like for a rookie pitcher. Look what Ross Olendhorf did when he went to the Pirates, he was nasty. Kennedy dominates in the minors. I think Granderson is really talented. I actually picked him real early in my fantasy draft last year because I thought he was going to be a sleeper, but that backfired lol. Maybe a change of scenary will do him good as well. I really hope this deal goes down.

I highly doubt the DBacks are pushing that particular scenario. Supposedly they had rejected Scherzer for Jackson straight up (and rightfully so). It doesn't seem to me that Ian Kennedy has enough value to push it to Scherzer plus prospects just for Jackson and Kennedy. We'll see how it plays out though, I've been wrong before

Max Scherzer is a beast and I doubt AZ would move him in this deal.

I'd actually push for this and on the Tigers site they are reporting the Dbacks are really pushing for it, i agree with gamble, Scherzer is an absolute stud and he cant go to arbitration for another FIVE YEARS! Granderson is a big loss yes, but imagine Scherzer, Verlander, Porcello,oh the possibilities...

Supposedly right now only the Tigers like the way this is shaping up. There have been a couple different reports including one where the Yankees would aquire both Jackson and Granderson. It sounds like there are still a lot of moving pieces on this one but definitely worth keeping an eye on

This is heating up...
Jon Heyman of SI.com says the Yankees will get OF Curtis Granderson, while Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy will end up with the D-Backs, and prospects Max Scherzer, Daniel Schlereth, Austin Jackson and Phil Coke go to the Tigers.
Not sure what Arizona is doing, but oh well.
