Apparently the Red Sox called on Granderson and as well and Detroit wanted Ellsbury plus Buchholz for him. IMO either one of those for Granderson straight is too much but it doesn't make much difference since it didn't amount to anything

I like Granderson and all, but that woulda been silly on the Sox part.

I know its quite late to comment, but I personally love this deal for the Yanks. Grandy is only going to make a little over $5 million next year... an All-Star CF with speed/power in Yankee stadium= no brainer. Kennedy will be a serviceable SP in the AL East at best he just cant handle it... A-Jackson??? Who knows? But if he turns out to be a Grandy type player who cares because we got Grandy right???
Scherzer has great stuff.. So Detroit, clearly making this move for financial flexibility, got back two potentially great young talents for the next 4-5 years...
I doubt they would have signed Jackson past this year anyways, so its no big loss to them.

Speaking as a life long Tiger fan, i absolutely agree with this deal on every level. We needed to save payroll, Granderson is a very talented player and should have some very productive years in pinstripes, that being said, the biggest hit Detroit will take from this in the PR department.Granderson has done numerous things to endear himself to the fans of the Tigers and not to mention the city of Detroit, he's a great role model and someone any team could run out there in front of their fans and know that he'd never embarrass them.
Our pitching staff has been upgraded very quickly with this deal, Verlander,Porcello and Scherzer as a 1-2-3 is fantastic, the addition of Coke gives the Tigers someone who can actually get left handers out, his stuff is good enough that he could conceivably close games if that's the way they wanted to handle him.Schlereth is a young extremely talented pitcher who will need to be polished a bit more to contribute consistently, but his potential is vastly untapped as of yet.
As disappointed as a fan as i may be to see Granderson moving on I'm not really sure the Tigers could have done any better in this deal, I can see this deal from the Yankees perspective and the Tigers perspective, I just don't know what the D-Backs were doing with this, I'll take Scherzer over Edwin Jackson all day.

I'm bored, figured i'd send this up to 'reflect' thus far into the trade...
Yankees
Granderson stats- .243 BA 7 HRs 22 RBIs 27 Runs 6 SBs .320 OBP
Dbacks
Jackson 5-6 4.63 ERA 1.38 WHIP
Kennedy 3-6 3.77 ERA 1.23 WHIP
Tigers
Jackson .302 BA, 1 HR, 15 RBIs 39 Runs, 12 SBs, .351 OBP
Scherzer 4-6 5.26 ERA 1.46 ERA (since being recalled from AAA has a 2.95 ERA)
Coke 5-0 3.00 ERA 1.30 WHIP
Schlereth (pitching in AAA Toledo)
I'd say Detroit short term thus far are winners, Jackson has done wonders in the outfield for his defense and he swings a nice bat as well, Scherzer was horrible before being sent down to Toldeo but since his call up he's been what Detroit thought he would be, VERY good. Coke has been extremely solid in the pen and Schlereth is doing well in Toledo i hear.
Granderson's numbers are skewed since he missed a month due to injury, but his batting average is still low.
Ian Kennedy has been solid for the Dbacks even though his record says otherwise, he looked real good against the Tigers last week. Edwin Jackson besides the no hitter, hasnt done muchHidden Content
